My recent buying spree on Ebay was not as haphazard as it might appear to have been. Having decided that I wanted my FUNNY LITTLE WARS army to be a late nineteenth century South American one, it set the parameters for the figures I needed to buy. My first choice of figures were those from the American Civil War as the style and colour schemes were reasonably close to those used by most South American armies of the period. (Most had French-style dark blue uniforms with red or dark blue kepis and trousers, although some had grey uniforms.)
I also had a rough plan of the units that I wanted to raise. These included:
Not a bad start ... but there is still a way to go yet.

What figures are you using for cavalry?
ReplyDeleteI think you're missing a perfect opportunity to work in some Horse Guards...
ReplyDeleteConrad Kinch,
ReplyDeleteI will be using Britains Deetail ACW Cavalry figures for the bulk of my Cavalry Regiment (or Regiments, if I can get enough)... but I am also on the lookout for suitable Britains Deetail Napoleonic Cavalry that I can use to form a small ceremonial Guard unit at some time in the future.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob, Original Britains Deetail Napoleonic cavalry are quite pricey now (like about £15 each..Ouch!) but there is a firm in Argentina called DSG that are making some very nice Napoleonic style hussars in shakos, painted up as various South American armies of about the 1840's, mounted on reissued Britains horses which would fit the bill nicely. They are stocked in the UK by Steve Weston toy soldiers and the price is very reasonable, Len Cooksey may also have them.

Brian Carrick,
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for letting me know about these figures; it might be a way to include some in my army without having to raise a bank loan!
I had heard of DSG but did not know that their figures were stocked by anyone in the UK. This is very useful information, and I will investigate further as I understand that DSG also do French Foreign Legion figures (which I would also like to include in my army).
All the best,
Bob
DSG have a good website with pictures of their ranges.
