A quick thanks to ...
Just a quick 'thank you' to two regular blog readers who spotted some typos in the most recent draft of my PORTABLE WARGAME rules. The mistakes have now been rectified, but if anyone spots any more, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.
It occurred to me as I read the hex version of the rules that you combine the versions: just substitute "space" for "square" or "hex", noting that either is useable. Virtually all the rules apply to both versions verbatim; e.g., the rule regarding measuring ranges, movement, etc. through sides of spaces, not corners. Where there are slight differences, e.g., placement of a unit within a space, a brief notation to that effect could be added. (Appendix 2 could be amended to show this.)
Always ready to make suggestions where some other bloke gets to do the work...
Bob, Given the size of the Hexon hexes, one could adapt the suggestion I made previously about dividing the squares into smaller - imaginary - squares for purposes of movement and ranges when using smaller scale figures. Each Hexon hex could be regarded as containing six zones, the face of the hex the unit base touches is the zone it is occupying; or, as seven zones, with the extra zone being in the very centre of the large hex. Writing a hex-based version of your rules for use with your Hexon terrain makes good sense - but can a game requiring one to carry round a box of Hexon really be described as 'portable'? For a strapping fellow like you, perhaps; but for little me... Regards, Arthur
Although I intend to use the Hexon II terrain for battles using 20mm-scale or larger figures, I also have a lot of Heroscape hexed terrain that is very suitable for 15mm-scale or smaller figures, and that is much more portable than the Hexon II terrain. An alternative is to use my 'Battle Cry!' or 'Memoir '44' ( or even my 'Barbarossa 1941') game boards.
