... trying to keep warm!
This morning's view across London from my toy/wargame room.
Overnight it began to snow, and as it approaches 9.00am, it still is. The part of London where I live seems to be very quiet as the local council has – as usual – not bothered to grit or salt any of the less important roads, including the one that we live on. As a result, the local bus service – which is the only way to go anywhere in weather like this if one hasn't got a car – seems to have stopped running as the buses cannot get up the steepest part of the hill.
On a day like this I would normally just stay indoors and wait for the thaw to start, but unfortunately, I have to go out. Yesterday I broke my dentures and had to take them to a dental technician to be repaired. I am supposed to collect them this morning, and until I do, eating is going to be a bit problematic. As I no longer have any lower front teeth (they were loosened very badly over the years thanks to getting smacked in the face in one too many rugby games and eventually had to be removed), I can chew alright ... I just cannot bite.
I have a choice. Stay inside and keep warm ... or go out so that when I get back, I can at least eat something properly.
Now where did I put my fur hat and warm boots?
We've had a good coating of snow here Bob, probably around 2", but it is not settling on the roads, only the pavements and gardens etc. Very slushy though so not too bad to walk. Hopefully you can get out to pick up your dentures. I'm just sat here enjoying the view of the snow and the birds on the feeders, given that I've done the shopping already so can sit nice and snug at home:).
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteWhen I went out at 10.00pm, it was still snowing and settling, but an hour later the temperature had risen and the snow had turned to rain. By mid afternoon most of the snow had melted … but understand that we may be getting snow again this evening.
Luckily I was able to get my repaired dentures … so at least I can now eat normally!
All the best,
Bob
BOB,
ReplyDeleteStay well and warm there with all that Snow- hope you can see the Dental Technician and collect your repaired broken Denture. Best Wishes. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteLuckily I was only out for an hour, and since then I’ve been indoors keeping warm … and thanks to my repaired dentures, I can eat normally again!
All the best,
Bob
Bob,
DeleteThat is good news that your back to normal. I have a partial top plate denture- my Dental Technician- James McKenzie added to the denture when I had to have a rear tooth extracted- all good now- he's very clever. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteUntil this repair was required, I had no idea that I could deal with a dental technician without having to go through a dentist! this has been a bit of a revelation to me as well as saving me money.
All the best,
Bob
Woke up this morning to heavy snow here on the Surrey hills. Its not cold but it's still snowing. Stay safe Bob hope you get out to the dentists.
ReplyDeleteCheers Steve
Stephen Smith (Steve),
DeleteIt was -1C when I went out at 10.00am this morning, but by the time I returned home at 11.00am, it was 2C and the snow had turned to rain and the snow was melting.
I’m hoping that we won’t get any more snow even though we are forecast to get another 7.5cm overnight.
Stay safe and stay well,
Bob
Hopefully all has gone well, Bob. My worry with snow etc. is not the cold but slipping and falling over. I have stayed indoors today!
ReplyDeleteRegards Steve
Steve,
DeleteWhen I got to the dental technicians, the snow was already beginning to melt. Like you, thanks to my scoliosis I have to be careful not to fall over as getting up without assistance would be very difficult.
Stay warm and stay safe,
Bob
Two pairs of socks, long underwear, two shirts, a hoodie and my heavy coat. That's my winter work outfit, I work in an unheated warehouse environment and frequently walk between buildings at the plant. It keeps me warm all day. Be careful, untreated walkways can be slippery, especially on hills, may your quest prove successful and uneventful!
ReplyDeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteI can understand why you have to wear all those clothes, but how do you manage to move about wearing it?
I sometimes have to use a walking stick, but never bother when it’s slippery underfoot as it’s more dangerous using one than not doing so.
I managed to get my repaired dentures, and I can now eat normally again … which made my trip out worth it.
All the best,
Bob
I'm glad you retrieved your dentures. It's not as bad as you might think. Multiple layers and I don't wear tight fitting clothes.
DeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteI know it’s impossible, but the newly repaired dentures seem to fit better than they did before they were damaged.
The last time I wore that many clothes (and they were fairly loose fitting) was when my wife and I visited North Cape in Norway.
All the best,
Bob
Glad it was mission accomplished Bob. Carl
ReplyDeleteCarl,
DeleteCheers! Life is so much better with a full set of teeth.
All the best,
Bob
