I apply Miniwax Wood Hardener to the basswood parts on my ships before painting. Not sure if the brand is is sold in the UK or not, but certainly there must be an equivalent. Stain or varnish should do the trick also.

Regards,
SteveCorporal_Trimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00376387688651637091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6933470253715910366.post-80725338184577340062012-02-13T19:18:48.795+00:002012-02-13T19:18:48.795+00:00David Crook,

(Apologies if someone has already suggested this.) You could cut a slice of pipe (hull height) and then clamp it to a wooden spacer (the width of the beam) before immersing it in the boiling water. Perhaps the prow and stern might not be as sharp but it might be a lot less fiddly.jfidzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12691707855117125800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6933470253715910366.post-29322319685874201082012-02-13T15:43:37.799+00:002012-02-13T15:43:37.799+00:00Pat G,
