I have had several requests for information about the next PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM … so I suppose that it’s about time that I started work on it.
As people who have read one or more of the previous issues will know, I rely on contributions from the numerous users of the various PORTABLE WARGAME rules and I am therefore issuing a request for suitable articles. For the first time, I’d like to include articles that relate to the ‘DOMINION OF …’ rules as well because although they aren’t part of the PORTABLE WARGAME stable, they are very much portable wargame rules.
I cannot pay for contributions BUT any author whose article (or articles) is accepted and published in the next Compendium will get a free copy of the hardback and softback editions, a free PDF edition, and a credit on the Amazon webpage.
If you would like to contribute to the next PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM, please contact me at theportablewargame @ gmail.com … but leave out the gaps in the email address!
Great to read about the 4th edition of The Compendium Bob - I have a vague idea but what I could really do with is a target date for submission, otherwise I know nothing will happen at this end!
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteI also work better if I have a deadline! I’d like to get it ready to publish at the end of October so it will be out for Christmas … so how about the middle of October?
All the best,
Bob
Great news, I will be happy to contribute if desired.
ReplyDeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteI’d be pleased and honoured to include article by you.
All the best,
Bob
Any particular theme for this compendium, Bob?
ReplyDeleteSteve
Steve,
DeleteI suspect that it might feature several naval wargame-related articles.
All the best,
Bob
Bob, you can count on me for some submissions on a variety of themes - and for proofreading. It's a good idea to include the Dominion series rules as they are, in many respects, variants of the FP3x3PW. Personally, I would not have a theme, but try to include pieces on a wide variety of PW topics, to appeal to as many readers as possible.
ReplyDeleteIn my role as proofreader, might I suggest a slightly longer period than the two weeks from a deadline of mid-October to publication at end-October?
Best wishes, Arthur
Arthur1815 (Arthur),
DeleteI don't have a particular theme in mind, but I suspect that there will be several naval wargame-related articles in the next Compendium.
I take your point about the deadline and will adjust my schedule accordingly. I hope to get the layout completed by the end of October so that I will have a month or so to get the text proofread and any problems ironed out. I will then aim to publish the book during November.
All the best,
Bob
Bob -
ReplyDeleteAre you (still) interested in my 'Tiny Navies' project as an article in Compendium IV? It is still recognisably Portable Naval Wargames, but with a WW2 style of setting, including carrier-borne aircraft and submarines. I just wish I could come up with a better appellation than 'Tiny Navies'!
I'll refer you to this posting (Oct 24), and the following series:
https://archdukepiccolo.blogspot.com/2024/10/naval-projects-game-rules-and-other.html .
The thing would include a rule set, vessel 'Stats', and a brief game similar to the one illustrated in that posting (probably the same, but re-played). I would probably add some comments for anyone wanting to use 'historical' navies.
Much of the work has already been done, so I could have a WORD or PDF file to you fairly shortly. What do you reckon?
Cheers,
Ion
Archduke Piccolo (Ion),
DeleteI'd love to be able to include your TINY NAVIES in the next Compendium! I like your proposal and it would fit in with what I think is going to be a naval wargame mini-theme.
I would prefer your article to be in WORD format as It will be easier for me to process.
All the best,
Bob

DeleteWORD file. Solid. ... and thanks!
Cheers,
Ion
Archduke Piccolo (Ion),
DeleteGreat!
All the best,
Bob
Bob, I have some ideas for a contribution but couldn't make that deadline. So it will have to wait for Compendium 5.
ReplyDeleteGary S,
DeleteI'd love to include a contribution from you but understand that it may have to wait until the next edition of the Compendium.
All the best,
Bob
