Sue and I have been away on a cruise to the Baltic for the past fortnight and came back yesterday … and when I looked at the hit counter on this blog, I discovered that it had just passed the eight million mark!
It only achieved seven million hits in July and I can only assume that the rapid rise in hits is down to the phenomenon that I mentioned in a blog post in the middle of September. I’d love to think that it was down to my deathless prose and somewhat eclectic approach to blogging, but suspect that it’s really due to Internet web bots!
I hope to write about our cruise over the forthcoming weekend … but first we have to do the unpacking!
Perhaps the "bots" are enjoying the "deathless prose and somewhat eclectic approach to blogging" as much as the readers, Bob?
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteI hope so!
All the best,
Bob
Ha! Let's go with that, Jack! :D
DeleteFitz-Badger,
DeleteIt certainly gets my vote!
All the best,
Bob
According to the stats at my blog this phenomenon arose in September. Now we're into October and it seems to be back to 'normal' again. Looking forward to hear from your Baltic trip.
ReplyDeleteRoger,
DeleteI've also noticed that things seem to have returned to normal. As to my Baltic trip ... well, I hope to get that written up and uploaded by Monday.
All the best,
Bob
Welcome back Bob!
ReplyDeleteThe bot phenomena seems to have tailed off on my blog although it has added some 400K since I hit the 2 million!
All the best,
DC
David Crook,
DeleteIt certainly has tailed off ... but going through the odd million 'hit' barrier every so often does wonders for one's morale!
All the best,
Bob
Still great numbers Bob, whoever or whatever was pressing the buttons!
ReplyDeleteRay Rousell,
DeleteCheers! I am hoping that the web bots enjoyed their visits to my blog!
All the best,
Bob
Still "definitely human visitors" Bob! Keep posting ;)
ReplyDeleteGeordie an Exile FoG,
DeleteCheers! I'll certainly continue blogging for as long as people enjoy reading my ramblings.
All the best,
Bob
Congrats, even if it's SkyNet or Matrix influenced.
ReplyDeleteI know it took me 14 years to hit a million, but if even a portion of this trend lingers, it will only be 2 years to hit two million.
It's good for morale, and overall self-esteem. So long as the bots in Italy and Thailand go back to mostly hitting my blog front page, and not the individual posts, I'll be happy.
Viscount Eric,
DeleteI must admit that I wondered if the mention of my involvement in the early development of the Matrix Game might have triggered some of the web bot 'hits'!
A million 'hits' is a goodly total to reach, and I hope that you achieve your second million soon. I agree about it being good for one's self-esteem and morale ... even if some of the 'hits' are down to web bots.
All the best,
Bob
Congratulations! Most of those hits weren't bots, but there is nothing wrong with being popular with bots as well!
ReplyDeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteYou are too kind! Things seem to have returned to normal at last ... but I somehow suspect that this phenomenon will rear its head again at some time in the future.
All the best,
Bob
