I have been continuing to buy stuff on eBay.
Firstly, I ‘won’ an auction that will enable me to add a further Kongo-class battleship and a Kaga-class aircraft carrier to my collection of Imperial Japanese Navy warships plus a model of the Libertad, an Argentinian coastal defence battleship.
Secondly, I also ‘won’ an auction for a Faller kit of a ruined castle that I hope to use with my Belle Époque collection.
Finally, I ‘won’ the auction for a KATO Pocket Line N-gauge steam loco and two carriages to add to my model railway collection.
I’m waiting for these items to be delivered, hence the title of this blog post. In the meantime, I’m continuing to work on the next edition of the Compendium.
If that ruined Faller castle/ Tower is the same I think of, it's labelled 'H0' but it's smaller than H0 and slightly larger than 'N'. I think it will go along nice both your Belle Époque Collection and your Kato N scale train if you like. Kato are great runners and value for money.
ReplyDeleteRoger,
DeleteThe castle should be delivered tomorrow … and I’m hoping that it’ll fit in with my other Belle Époque buildings.
I already have a PECO locomotive that has a KATO chassis … and it’s my best runner. I’m hoping that this Pocket Line train will be as good,
All the best,
Bob
I'm glad to see that you're buying some rolling stock Bob - any update on the shelf-layout?
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteCheers! As to the shelf layout … that’s on hold for the moment.
All the best,
Bob
It's always fun anticipating packages in the mail. I just ordered the last of the 15mm ancients I think I need for my long dormant ancient world project re awakened by participation in Maudlin Jack Tar's collaborative campaign.
ReplyDeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteI hope that your latest figures arrive soon. I have several packages due to arrive tomorrow … and I with luck, I’ll be able to ‘play’ with them over the weekend.
All the best,
Bob
BOB,
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you have bought local- I've ordered my Alien figures from the USA - unfortunate that it will take about 20 days for the orders to arrive- if I could buy here I would to avoid the long delay. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteI gave up ordering from the US some time ago because of the time it took for orders to arrive. The record was five months! The seller took my order, needed several reminders that I’d heard nothing, and took three months to send it … by post! The US Mail held onto it for six weeks before getting it across the Atlantic … and then the Royal Mail wouldn’t deliver it until I’d paid import duty and their fee for collecting the duty!
Good luck with getting your order!
All the best,
Bob
BOB,
DeleteFive months is certainly a horror story. I try to avoid overseas purchases if I can- though the US was the only place to obtain the Aliens - here is hoping that postage does not take more than two weeks. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteWhat made the situation worse was the fact that by the time the stuff was finally delivered, I’d moved on to another project!
All the best,
Bob
I haven't added to my collection for more than 20 years, nor have I used a paint brush, other than to do some minor repair on figures which have fallen off the shelf. But I do remember the excitement of waiting for a box of new figures to arrive.
ReplyDeleteBefore then I painted almost every day for about 40 years. So its really surprising that I have not missed it. My attention turned overnight to actual wargaming on the table, and to running my campaign. I have not really missed painting, and I am quite sure that I would not be able to do so anymore.
I imagine it must be similar for you, when you change from one project to the next?
The important thing is to maintain interest and enthusiasm for the hobby, whatever aspect we are currently working on.
regards
Paul
Thistlebarrow (Paul),
DeleteYou have exhibited a level of self-discipline that I could never emulate! I’m far too much of a wargaming ‘butterfly’ to draw a line unde a project and say ‘that’s it!’
My figure painting is quite basic (I don’t do shading tc., just blocks of colour, although at present I am concentrating on painting buildings … which I find much easier than figures.it is giving me time to think about my wargaming future.
I totally agree with the last line of your comment … and long it remain so for both of us.
All the best,
Bob
Bob, whatever happened to the small RR project you were working on?
ReplyDeleteNickN,
DeleteIt has been in a state of limbo … but I hope to resume work on it in the very near future.
All the best,
Bob
