I suspect that this situation and its aftermath may well 'rumble on' for a couple more days, but eventually he will find something else (and somewhere else) to rail at.
He obviously has what the other students term 'issues'!
Even children aged nine can be more than a handful to deal with at times!
We shall see tomorrow what will happen to the boyfriend. He should be permanently excluded, but they have to follow due process before that can happen. If his mother objects and begins legal proceedings for something like ‘the use of unnecessary force to subdue’, it could mean months of legal wrangling and possibly even a court case.
Sounds like she would be well rid of him . . . and some counseling on that matter would probably be wise . . . are there any female teachers or administrators who she would talk to? Sadly so many of those who are abused go back to the abuser thinking he (or she) will change.
I just did my best in what was a bad situation, and I managed to prevent the girl from suffering serious physical injury. That gives me some satisfaction.
This is not what I joined the teaching profession to do ... but I cannot count the number of times that I have had to do something like this over the past forty years. I hope to retire soon ... and with luck this will be the last time I have to deal with a incident like this.
This was her first serious boyfriend ... and it is now apparent to her that she made a bad choice.
I know that the Principal (who is female) has already spoken to the girl and made sure that she feels safe and knows the support that is available for her to call upon if she feels the need.
As to the boy ... well the matter is now subject to a disciplinary hearing, and suspect that it will end with him going elsewhere to study. I hope so for everyone's sake.

Impulse control. Some people just don't have it.
ReplyDeleteI went to a couple of meetings.
ReplyDeleteI really live on the edge compared to you.
Arquinsiel,
ReplyDeleteIn his case, not control whatsoever!

Well, I pounded a few fenceposts in, that's as violent as my day got.
ReplyDeleteBut good on you for prompt intervention.

Trebian,
ReplyDeleteYou don't know how lucky you are leading such an exciting life. Meetings ... I dream of going to meetings (in my nightmares!).
All the best,
Bob
Glad you and all the others escaped unscathed!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad my little charges are only 9 years old!

Boy "close combat in the classroom" sure beats my hand-to-hand with a keyboard
ReplyDeleteThe good news (or rather just positive) is that there seems to be a multitude of witnesses on your side of the lines
Seriously I hope things "settle" and common sense reigns
It's not what teaching should be about but well done Bob as the girl in question was obviously in potential danger
Full marks and commendation
"in the name of love" . . . or is it "lust"?

Ross Mac,
ReplyDeleteAt least the girl was safe as a result of my intervention, and that is the most important outcome from these sorry events.
All the best,
Bob
