A small paint conversion?

I have always been a fan of the Tintin books, and one of my favourites is KING OTTOKAR'S SCEPTRE. At one point Tintin has to escape from Borduria, and he does this by stealing a military aircraft.

In the original black and white version of the book, the aircraft bears a resemblance to a Heinkel He112 fighter ...

... but by the time the colour version of the book came into print, the aircraft had changed into a Messerschmitt Bf109.

I have two 1:100th-scale Bf109 'Wingman' models as a result of my purchasing two AXIS & ALLIES ANGELS 20 starter sets, and I am very tempted to paint one of them as a Bordurian Bf109 fighter ... just to satisfy a modelling itch that I have.

  1. Hi Bob,

That is a nifty little paint scheme and one that should be easy enough to replicate. The only downside I can see is that you will then be obliged to come up with a Bordurian army....;-)

Further opponents for Maldacia and Laurania perhaps?

    All the best,

    DC

  2. David Crook,

The possibility of creating a Bordurian Army is one that would interest me, especially as FUNNY LITTLE WARS - GARDEN CAMPAIGNS - BORDURIA CALLING has already begun to create a 54mm-scale version!

I can imagine that Laurania would probably be equipped with 'Hurricanes' and/or 'Spitfires' and Maldacia would have Italian or French aircraft.

    All the best,

    Bob

  3. By the whiskers of Kurvi Tasch! Very fond memories of Tintin and Borduria. It was a great blend of Stalin's Russia and a generic fascist state with a vaguely Slavic flavor. Szplug!

  4. Mad Padre,

Borduria seemed to move from a Fascist-style state before the Second World War to a Soviet-style one afterwards. Under the inspired leadership of the beloved leader Kurvi Tasch, Taschism then became the only political movement permitted within Borduria.

    All the best,

    Bob
