Some interesting dioramas

Back in July 2011 my wife and I visited the Royal Green Jackets Museum in Winchester. Looking back through the photographs I took, I found some that feature several of the dioramas that are housed in the Museum.

The dioramas include one of part of the battlefield at Vimiera, Portugal (1808), ...

... another that shows the assault on the Kashmir Gate during the Siege of Delhi (1857), ...

... and a third is a massive diorama of the battlefield of Waterloo (1815).

Part of the latter shows the French attack on the Chateau of Hougoumont.

These are quite inspiring to see, and I recommend anyone visiting the Winchester area to try to make time to visit one of the numerous military museums in the city.

  1. Interesting Bob.

I must admit having to look up on Google Maps to see where Winchester was, being a Scotsman a lot of England is unkown territory for me.

I find that it is handy for a visit to the Portsmouth area, even more museums down there!

  3. I had seen some of the Waterloo images before but it must be really amazing to see the diorama in person.

  4. Jim Duncan,

The is a lot to see in that part of Hampshire, including the military museums in Winchester, Portsmouth Naval Base and its attendant museum and preserved ships, the forts that protect Portsmouth, and the Supermarine Museum, Southampton ... to name just a few!

    All the best,

    Bob
