DIY playing card tiles

The playing card tiles that I have used in my two recent battles were bought as part of a boxed game entitled PLAY 5. I know that several people have followed my example and bought copies of the game so that they can have a set of playing card tiles, but not everyone has either the time to search for the game or the money to but it just for the tiles. Luckily help is at had.

One of my regular blog readers – Mike – has designed a set of DIY playing card tiles, and these can be downloaded here.

He suggests that the sheet of tiles should be printed onto a full size sticky label and then stuck onto a piece of mounting board so that the coloured side of the board forms the back of the tiles. The individual tiles can then be cut out using a sharp craft knife, a steel ruler, and a cutting mat.

  1. If scaled to 90% they should fit on Scrabble tiles as well (which are 19x18mm).

  2. Coopdevil,

What an excellent idea! I am sure that this will be a very viable alternative for people to use.

  5. Sean,

It is one less thing that you are going to have to do ... unless you want to, of course.

    All the best,

    Bob

  11. Ah nice, I did something like this a while back with six suits but lost the file so this is very handy.

For those interested, you can get the Play 5 set from here: http://www.gadgetgrotto.com/gifts-gadgets-c112/fun-games-c16/board-family-games-c18/play-5-poker-and-crossword-puzzle-board-game-p114802

I'm pretty sure it's a website run by Menkind since they have and almost identical website but slightly different pricing.

£5.99 + £3.25 delivery so not too bad.

Great blog by the way. I'm intrigued by miniatures wargaming, not an area of gaming I have tried much of so am looking for interesting ideas. Particularly interested in using this for some solitaire gaming.

    Cheers

  13. Another alternative are the little packs of playing cards that come in Christmas crackers.

  14. Epictetus,

Those are what I used to use, but I found them difficult to shuffle and pick up. In additon they seemed to take up a lot more space on the tabletop than the tiles do.

There is nothing to stop people using them, but I happen to think that the tiles are better.

    All the best,

    Bob

  15. Another game that has these tiles in the UK is Crosshand. I picked up a copy on Ebay for £1.01

  16. Peter Jones,

Thanks for information. I was interested to see that Crosshand has two sets of tiles, so it is very good value indeed.

    All the best,

    Bob
