Paint, paint, paint

I began painting the walls of the conservatory at 9.00am ... and finished applying the first coat at 5.15pm. Other than a short break for lunch, I have been painting all the time, and now I feel exhausted and ache all over.

I had hoped that I would only need to apply one coat of paint to the walls, but it became apparent by midday that several of the walls and the newly plastered areas are going to need at least a second – if not a third – coat. I cannot do any more painting tonight as dusk is approaching and I need natural light in order to make paint. This means that I will have to try to complete painting the walls as early as I can tomorrow so that I can paint the skirting board before the floorer arrives on Thursday to latex the floor, prior to laying the new floor on Friday.

  1. Fresh plaster = 3 coats of paint. Sad but true!

  2. Tim Gow,

That is pretty well what I am now expecting to have to do. I only hope that I have enough paint!

    All the best,

  3. You are painting stuff in the wrong scale Bob - 1:1 is never going to catch on, except with the Airsofters :O)

  4. Chris Kemp,

You are absolutely right! Painting in 1:1-scale is far more difficult.

I will persist in my efforts ... but I am looking forward to the end of the task.

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. That's the problem when you're in a hurry. I prefer a more relaxed approach, painting one coat per day on sizeable jobs.

Just before Christmas I repainted the kitchen - two colours: beige and green. It took perhaps 5 days, but as I didn't have to wait on anybody, I could afford to take my time.

The Conservatory is of course a bigger job, and requires professional input. A relaxed timetable is out of the question.

  6. Archduke Piccolo,

I would have preferred to have had longer to do the painting ... but I had to fit in with the floorer's timetable. (Specialists who are in high demand can set their own timetable for doing their work so I had no choice about the timings.)

Once the new flooring is in place my wife and I can take our time to get the conservatory finished.

    All the best,

    Bob
