Going Loco: Part 12: Painted armoured train and railway gun

I have now finished painting the first of my toy train set conversions, the armoured train (an armoured locomotive and two armoured wagons) ...

... and the railway gun (0-4-0 locomotive and railway gun).

They were painted with Humbrol matt enamel paint (Cockpit Green No.78).

  1. Bob,

They look absolutely splendid. Very clean and simple. Well done.

Next thing is to use them in a game of course.

  2. Hi Bob,

They both look splendid and I am thinking that an RCW game would be a good bet. It just goes to show what you can do with some cheap 'made in Hong Kong' plastic models and some imagination.

Very well done and I am looking forward to seeing them in action.

    All the best,

    DC

Thanks very much for your kind words.

I hope to use some of my new locomotives and rolling stock in a battle in the near future.

  7. David Crook,

A Russian Civil War battle would be an ideal opportunity to use my new armoured train (I can almost hear the cheers and chant of 'Strelnikov! Strelnikov!') but I want to finish painting the rest of my conversions first.

The cost of the armoured train and railway gun was £6.00 for two toy train sets plus the cost of the odds and ends from my spares box, the glue I used, and the paint. The total was probably £10.00 or less ... which makes them very cheap indeed.

    All the best,

    Bob

  11. Ross Mac,

They don't look too bad do they? I must admit that they look better than I had hoped when I began these conversions.

    All the best,

    Bob

  14. Hey Bob,

Nice job on the armored train! It certainly looks the part and I'm looking forward to its first deployment on the tabletop. Now...all you have to do is to resist the urge to make "Whoo-whoo Train Noises". ;)

  15. Martin,

I must admit to being very pleased with the conversions ... and I may well do some more in due course. As to when it will appear in a battle ... soon, I hope!

    All the best,

    Bob

  16. Chris Kemp,

Cheers! Thanks for your very kind comment.

I'm surprised that you haven't done something similar. They are exactly the sort of conversions I would have expected you to do.

    All the best,

    Bob
