More Prussians

A recent auction 'win' on eBay included a number of Prussian infantry and artillery (and extra Prussian and Dutch-Belgian officers), and these have now been varnished and based.

Prussian Infantry

Prussian Artillery and Officer

Notes:
  • The artillery are still using 'borrowed' British ordnance. This will be replaced with appropriate Prussian artillery pieces in due course.
  • The Dutch-Belgian officer can just be seen on the right-hand side of the image. No doubt he will rejoin the rest of his nation's army very soon!

  1. They look good. Some nice little armies for gridded games, no doubt.
Every time I see stands with multiple figures it just appeals to me more than individually based figures, at least for battles (as opposed to skirmish level or individuals). I think it works better for sort of abstracted games where one is less concerned about trying to make units look like masses of individuals like one might with "large battalion" games.

  2. "Bony fought the Prussians..." needs to be sung in the background.
Great looking fellows and an enjoyable project to watch evolving.

  3. Fitz-Badger,

You are exactly right ... although they will also 'do' for games like BLUCHER.

I agree that for battles where the stands or bases represent a largish unit like a battalion, a brigade, or even a division, multi-figure bases (especially if they have 'same pose' figures) convey the feeling of mass better than a large number of individually based figures.

    All the best,

  4. Tradgardmastare,

The original collection had very few Prussians, which is why I have tried to expand their numbers so that the Prussian army will be comparable in size to the British and French armies.

In fact the British element in the Allied army will be slightly smaller than the Prussian army, although they will have the small Hanoverian, Brunswick, and Dutch-Belgian armies fighting alongside them.

I keep thinking that I ought to take a break from this project to do something else (if only to stop myself from getting bored) ... but each time I do I 'win' an auction on eBay!

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. Hi Bob,

As I recall Prussia did make use of some British artillery in 1815 as they were short of their own so you have no fears on that score!

    All the best,

  6. David Crook,

As far as I can make out the Prussian artillery park included Russian and French ordnance as well as British and Prussian ... so it would appear that I can use pretty well any cannons that I like!

    All the best,

    Bob
