The new fence is finished

Over the past two days the remains of our old fence have been removed, and a new fence (with concrete uprights, wooden panels, and wooden kick-boards) has been installed.

One thing that we have noticed right away is that the slightly lower fence gives us a better view from the back of our house and more light in our conservatory/garden room.

  2. Nice looking fence! Mine do the job but tend to look like they were built by someone who didn't really know what he was doing and isn't inclined to neatness. I think you made a good choice.

  3. Certainly a most sturdy fence -certainly will stand up to those expected strong winds. KEV.

  4. Willian McHarg,

I wish! It was actually taken from the second floor window of my toy/wargames room.

    All the best,

  5. Ross Mac,

If I had installed the new fence it would probably have looked worse than the old one!

I found the installers via a website called 'Rated People', and they provided the best quote for the job (i.e. the quote was itemised and detailed as well as being the cheapest by £200.00). They arrived early, didn't take lots of breaks, tidied up as they worked, and worked hard all the time they were on site.

I am happy with the result.

    All the best,

    Bob

  6. Kev,

With luck the stronger posts and the lower panels will be far more wind resistant that the old fence was. It certainly can't be any worse!

    All the best,

    Bob

  7. Good choice, Bob. Concrete posts and a lower profile should be more wind-resistant.
A new fence will be an asset when you come to sell up in future.

  8. Arthur1815,

You are quite right; the lower fence should be more secure in high winds, and the concrete posts won't rot like the wooden ones did. It will also make the house more saleable if and when we decide to sell and move.

    All the best,

    Bob
