Getting ready for COW2015

I now have only five more days before I leave for COW2015 (this year's Conference of Wargamers, which is run annually by Wargame Developments and held at Knuston Hall, Northamptonshire).

As I am only putting on one session (I am giving attendees the opportunity to try out a slightly modified version of Professor Philip Sabin's KRIEGSSPIEL 1914 wargame), I don't have a lot to get ready. I have the painted playing pieces finished and the maps are drawn; all I need to do now is to re-draft the rules very slightly to include the minor modifications that have been made to the rules since they were first published online.

One thing I must do is to visit the local printer I use and have the COW Timetable printed so that it is large enough to fill the notice board at COW. (See below)

This will only take a few minutes, and I hope to do that either tomorrow or on Tuesday. Once that is done my preparations for COW2015 will be pretty well complete.

  1. Bob,

You mentioned painted playing pieces--are these figures? Either way, I'm sure they'll be up to the usual wonderful Cordery standard!

    Sycophantically yours,

  2. Chris,

The playing pieces are actually cheap 'Jenga'-like pine blocks that I have painted. The German blocks have one face painted dark green, the British blocks have one face painted red, the Belgian blocks have one face painted in the colours of the Belgian tricolour (red, yellow, and black), and the French blocks have one face painted in the colours of the French tricolour (red, white, and blue).

Please feel free to be sycophantic again in future!

    All the best,

    Bob

  3. Hi Bob,

Using Jenga blocks for a wargame? Nah.....it'll never catch on.........;-)

Looks like a great little hex based idea though!

    All the best

  4. David Crook,

The Jenga blocks were bought from a 99p Store ... and I only used just over one pack for the playing pieces.

There is a two-player version of the game as well, although I have not yet had an opportunity to try it.

    All the best,

    Bob
