The final ships are added to the fleet ... for the moment!

I seem to have finally reached a natural place to stop in my model ship-building project, and have added the following ships to my fleet:
  • Two armoured cruisers
  • Three protected cruisers
  • Seven more merchant ships

This gives a total of:
  • Eight battleships
  • Four armoured cruisers
  • Six protected cruisers
  • Twelve merchant ships
I now have more than enough ships for the naval wargame I aim to run at this year's Conference of Wargamer (COW2016), although I would like to add some more ships (especially torpedo boats and destroyers) in due course. What I need to do now is to paint the ships that I have finished and to do some work on the rules I intend to use.

  3. I was wondering about destroyers and torpedo boats. Good to hear they are coming but a good idea to paint the existing ships first.

    1. Ross Mac,

I expect that the destroyers/torpedo boats will not take long to build, hence the decision to leave them until last. As to the rest ... well I hope to begin painting them very soon indeed.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Steven Page,

Thanks very much for your kind comment. As the destroyers/torpedo boats are going to be very simple in outline, they should be quite quick to build.

      All the best,

  5. Hi Bob,

They are very nice indeed and now that you have captured the 'look' and have perfected the construction technique I imagine that the Shooter's Hill shipyard will be busy for some time to come! I am hugely impressed with lot and the merchantmen look particularly appealing with their diverse appearance.

Very well done and I am looking forward to seeing them painted and in action - not to mention what the rules will look like!

    All the best,

    DC

    1. David Crook,

Thanks very much for your very kind comment. I hope that they will look even better when they are painted.

The merchant ships used up all the odds and ends of hulls etc. that I had used to build the warships, and as a result they all came out slightly different from each other.

The rules are going to be based heavily of my PORTABLE NAVAL WARGAME rules, with a few small changes so that secondary armament can be included. It is my intention to work on them over the next fortnight and - once they and the models are ready - to play-test them well before COW.

      All the best,

      Bob

  6. Stu Rat,

I hope that the merchant ship at the bottom of the photo shown above will pass muster should I need one.

    All the best,

    1. Kev,

Good luck with your new PC.

I have decided to paint the ships in an overall grey colour scheme. I did consider painting them in Victorian livery, but for the time being they will be grey and menacing!

      All the best,

      Bob
