  1. I didn't realise that Hitler agreed so quickly to assist Franco.

It is unlikely I'll comment on every day by day post Bob but I appreciate you doing them.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

    1. Pete.,

Whereas Constantin von Neurath, the German foreign minister, rejected the request for aid (he was afraid that such a move might lead to a European war), a direct approach to Hitler by Johannes Bernhardt - a German businessman who lived and worked in Spanish Morocco and who knew Franco - worked. Hitler consulted Herman Goering, Wilhelm Canaris, and Werner von Blomberg, all of whom thought that such aid was necessary for the success of the Nationalist cause. As a result, ten Ju 52/3m were immediately flown to Morocco to assist in the transportation of the Army of Africa to southern Spain.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Yep who do you think supplied the aircraft to ferry the Spanish African Army to mainland Spain?

    1. Simon Jones,

Both Hitler and Mussolini sent aircraft to help transport the Army of Africa from Morocco to southern Spain.

      All the best,

      Bob
