Dutch-Belgian reinforcements are on their way!

The Dutch-Belgian Infantry that I began to renovate, varnish, and base last Sunday are now finished, and are ready to take their place alongside the rest of my small Dutch-Belgian army.

I now have five unit of Infantry (each of six figures), two units of Cavalry (each of four figures) four officers on foot, and one mounted officer in my Dutch-Belgian army. I also have a further Cavalry unit (which I had forgotten I had!) waiting on my work table to be dealt with, along with enough Brunswick Infantry to form a further unit for that army. I also hope to re-paint one of my 'spare' mounted Prussian officers so that he is wearing a black uniform. This will enable me to use him as a mounted officer for my Brunswick army.

  1. Splendid stuff - will you use them with the Portable Wargame?

    1. Conrad Kinch,

I really feel that I am gradually getting somewhere with this collection, and these figures are a great addition to the Dutch-Belgian army.

I plan to use them with my Simple Napoleonic rules, which are a sort of development of the Portable Wargame rules.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Coming along nicely. I have a vague foreshadowing of a big multiplayer Napoleonic game at a future COW.

    1. Ross Mac,

It is all slowly but surely coming together, and I do hope to have stage a multiplayer wargame with them one day ... but probably not at COW as it would not fit in with the length of the programme sessions.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Kev,

Thanks for your kind comment. I am trying to get the smaller armies done first, after which I will do the Prussians, the British, and then the French.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. The extra officers seem to be something new. Are we really looking at 7-figure battalions, here? I like those figures - really wargamery. What make are they?

In my own next posting, I'll be having a debate with myself whether to continue with my own single gun park, or your method. My problem is that I like your system (a lot) but don't want to spend much (any!) more money on cannon!

Some ideas have occurred to me, but all of them involve difficult compromises... Meanwhile, I'll be more than happy to give your rule system a tryout, if that's OK with you. As you will have seen, that, except in the particular of cannon, my armies are easily adaptable to your system.

    1. Archduke Piccolo,

The extra officers are intended to be used to represent Brigade Commanders, but I have also had thoughts about them being added to a Regiment to show that it is elite. As to their make ... well they are all from the Del Prado pre-painted range so I have no idea who made the original figures I am afraid.

I suspect that when I finally get around to properly organising each of my armies that I am going to discover that I will need to acquire quite a few more cannons than I currently have. I may have to trawl through what is on offer on eBay to make up the numbers or even resort to casting my own using the Prinz August moulds that I have somewhere in my toy/wargames room.

Please feel free to use my rules and to change them in whatever way that you wish. They are still a 'work-in-progress' and nothing as yet is set in stone.

      All the best,

      Bob
