Useful items found in the aquarium section of a pet shop

During a recent visit to a local pet shop I happened to be browsing in the aquarium section when I saw some items that I thought might be useful as scenery for wargames ... so I bought them!

Note: I have included some based 15mm Essex Miniatures in the photographs to give some idea of the size of these items.

None of them cost me more than £3.00 each, and they seem to have all sorts of potential. The castle wall and arch might need repainting, but that will not be too difficult to do, and will improve their appearance no end.

I understand that it is possible to buy all sorts of useful bits and pieces in pet shops, and I will certainly be having a good look around the next time I pay a visit to the shop.

      All the best,

    1. Phil,

Those Greco-Roman pillars do look great, and could be used in a lot of different eras.

I looked up Dobbies after your comment, and discovered that they have branches in Gillingham and Ashford. I'll try to visit them if and when I can.

      All the best,

  5. Congratulations on finding these, especially as they are so affordable! Comparable items here would cost 4-5 times as much, so unless they are truly excellent, my budget forces me to pass them by.

    Best regards,

    1. Chris,

I think that the Greco-Roman pillars were in the shop's January sale, and were half price.

      All the best,

  6. I particularly like the Greek ruins and can picture a Colonial game with an archaeological dig in a desert oasis under attack or perhaps they might appear on a hill top in a Turks vs Greeks or Russians etc. A good purchase.

    1. Ross Mac,

I must admit that when I saw them I had similar ideas as to how the Greco-Roman pillars could be used in a wargame.

      All the best,

      Bob
