A Fantasy version of my Portable Wargame rules

One of my regular blog readers is Maudlin Jack Tar, and whilst I and others have been thinking about writing a Fantasy variant of my PORTABLE WARGAME Ancients rules, he has actually gone and done it!

His rules are available on his blog page, PROJECTS & PROCRASTINATION ...

... and besides enough information to actually fight a Fantasy battle using his rules, he has added a battle report.

I strongly recommend anyone with an interest in a possible Fantasy variant of my rules to pay Maudlin Jack Tar's blog a visit. I don't think that you will be disappointed.

  1. Thanks for the kind words Bob. I've now expanded the additional rules a bit and published them (though they're still very rough). Note: after their disastrous first outing, the Trolls have undertaken some training and been strengthened up a bit.

    1. Maudlin Jack Tar,

Credit where credit is due; you have made greater progress than I have in creating a viable Fantasy version of my rules.

I look toward to reading your future battle reports.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. This is good news! The picture above shows single based figures in a single grid. I realize they act as one unit but what if one had multiple figures per base. Could more than one base occupy a single grid/hex if there was sufficient space? Thanks.

    1. A. Jeff Butler,

In the basic rules only one unit can occupy a grid area at the same time. I'm not sure what Maudlin Jack Tar intends should happen with regard to having more than one unit per grid area, but I suspect he will use the 'one unit per grid area' rule.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Bob,

What is the link to Jack's blog? I clicked on the picture, but all I got is a larger version of the picture. I did searches for the blog by title (and by "Maudlin Jack Tar") and still got nothing.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    1. Chris,

Just click on the link where my blog says 'His rules are available on his blog page'. That should take you to Jack's blog page.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. Thanks--I should have been able to figure that out. I feel shame. (Not really, mostly embarrassment.)
