Connections UK 2017: I had a plan ...

I had a plan. It was a simple plan. My plan was to write a review of each day of the the conference once I had got home, had something to eat, and had relaxed for a while.

It didn't work for Day 1!

I got home from the first day of the conference at 7.15pm, having travelled on London's very crowded public transport system from the centre to the south east of the capital. I felt very dirty, somewhat fractious, and was in need of a shower and a long rest. By the time I had recovered enough to eat dinner, all I wanted to do was to collapse in front of the TV and relax ... which I did. In the end I decided that I needed to get some sleep, so rather than write a detailed report about the day's events, I went to bed.

Hopefully today's journey to and from Connections UK 2017 will go better than yesterday's ... but I suspect that it won't, and I will only get around to writing about the whole thing on Friday.

  1. Don't stress yourself, Bob. As long as you enjoy the conference itself - that's all that matters. Plenty of time to write up reports afterwards :)

    Cheers,
    Aaron

    1. Prufrock (Aaron),

I am enjoying the conference, but the commuting is horrific!

I'm taking lots of photographs, and hope to write a detailed report about the conference on Friday or Saturday.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. I would suggest (tongue in cheek) that you dictate the blog posts while commuting but you'd be far better off putting on some soothing driving music and watching the traffic.

    1. Ross Mac,

Appearing to talk to oneself on a commuter train in London would not look or sound out of place at all!

I wish that I could drive there and back, but there is nowhere to park nearby. That said, sitting in my air conditioned car would be so much more comfortable that standing up on an overcrowded train.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Geordie an Exiled FoG,

I listened to some very interesting speakers today, and actually took part in a very interesting wargame as well.

More sitting and listening tomorrow ... but we finish slightly earlier and I should miss the worst of the rush hour on the way home.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. I am looking forward to the audio's and notes when become available

I would have dearly loved to have listened to David Manly, reading his bio I suddenly realised why his naval rules were actually so good!

I literally would have bought the guy a pint and said thank you!

    3. Geordie an Exiled FoG,

David Manley is speaking tomorrow, but he was at the conference today. If you had been able to attend this year, you could have had a chat in the bar this evening.

      All the best,

      Bob

One of the people I played with was David Manley. I hope that hasn't made you too jealous!

    6. That (IMHO) is the best complement you can ever give a fellow wargamer and in my books "your wargaming friend is my friend" ;)

    7. Geordie an Exiled FoG,

Hopefully you will meet - and wargame - with him at some time in the future, and discover for yourself what a nice bloke he is.

      All the best,

  5. Don't worry about daily reports, just enjoy the conference and write about it once you've recovered.

  6. I don't blame you! As a sometime visitor who has traveled on London public transport (the tube and trains) I can't imagine I'd want to do anything but relax afterwards. Do whatever makes you happy. We can all wait. :)

At least I managed to get a seat on the way home last night and on the way to the conference this morning!
