American Civil War ironclads in action

As part of the work I am doing on my latest book (GRIDDED NAVAL WARGAMES), I have been fighting an action between my newly-built American Civil War ironclads. the action took pace on the little-know Missenhitti River ...

... and resulted in a close-fought, close-range action where neither side escaped undamaged.

I now need to stage a battle between some Pre-dreadnought-era warships. With luck I should manage to do that withing the next week or so.

Thanks! The Missenhitti came to me when I was trying to find a suitable river name.

      All the best,

    1. The Good Soldier Svjek,

The river and river banks are all standard Hexon II items and the ships are - of course - homemade.

      All the best,

  3. Bob,
The ACW Ironclads look excellent on your Hex River- some cotton wool balls to represent 'cannon smoke' may be in order here. Very clear photos. Looking out for your Pre-Dreadnought era battles. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson,

Thanks very much. I was going to use cotton wool balls, but after taking a couple of photographs with them in, they didn't look quite right. I should have used the black and red hamster bedding I've used in the past ... but unfortunately I couldn't find it.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. Great looking game Bob - will your book stretch back to Ancient naval battles?

    1. Maudlin Jack Tar,

The rules are primarily written for the age of steam, iron, and steel ... but one set will certainly be adaptable for galley warfare.

      All the best,
