The heat of the day ... and night

The nearest Meteorological Office monitoring station to our house is in Plumstead, and yesterday afternoon it's on-line readout looked like this a 3.45pm ...

... and this an hour later at 4.45pm.

It is amazing to see that within that hour the maximum temperature had risen to 33°C and the forecast for the rest of the day had changed.

It is predicted that we will have another very hot day today ... but with the likelihood of thunderstorms later.

We shall see.

    1. 'Lee,

The forecast was right; last night it was hot and humid and at one point (about 3.00am) I went and stood on our patio because it was cooler outside the house than inside!

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. The Good Soldier Svjek,

It was relatively cool here early this morning, but I've just come back from doing some shopping, and the air temperature is already over thirty degrees.

      All the best,

  3. I didn't know it ever cracked 30C anywhere in England, P.G. Wodehouse novels notwithstanding.

    1. Archduke Piccolo,

It has certainly reached thirty-five degrees in some places, and predictions are that the thirty-eight degree record could easily be beaten very soon.

      All the best,

  4. Bob,
Yes, it would be great to send to you some of our 'freezing' days -to cool your House. Strange- were in the Winter and in the grip of severe Drought. But, this tends to happen -we have cycles of Drought- particularly in Rural New South Wales- it happens every so often as long as I can remember- some Droughts last 7 years or more...no wonder we're regarded as the Dry Continent- Australia. Best Wishes. KEV.

If only it was possible to shift weather from place to place, life might be so much easier for everyone!

When I started to watch, I wondered why you had sent me the link ... and then I realised that it was preceded by a very long advert!

  5. We had the boiler serviced yesterday but they couldn't check that the thermostat was working properly (to trigger the heating) as the room temperature was 30.5C and the heating couldn't be set to more that 30.

    1. Nigel Drury,

With luck you'll be able to check the boiler thermostat over the weekend when the temperature drops to below thirty.

      All the best,

  7. Crazy weather over there Bob, our youngest daughter and her boyfriend flew back yesterday after 10 days in Spain and said it was hotter there than here where it was a 'moderate' 29 degrees with less humidity!

    1. 'Lee,

It is the humidity that is the real problem. I've coped with much high temperatures abroad than we have had recently in the UK, but all those places were geared up for it and usually had low humidity and/or a gentle breeze. At least the recent rain seems to have had the effect of cooling everything down a bit.

      All the best,

      Bob
