Britannia's Mission: The Dawlish Chronicles August 1883 – February 1884

I have been reading Antoine Vanner's excellent DAWLISH CHRONICLES since the first one was published ... and mighty fine books they have proven to be! The latest has a special appeal to me as it involves lots of things that I enjoy, namely warships, Naval Landing Brigades, East Africa, slavery (and the Royal Navy's anti-slavery patrols), and the political shenanigans of two colonising nations – Britain and Germany – vying for power in an area of Africa that is ripe for colonial expansion.

In fact BRITANNIA’S MISSION is chock-a-block full of potential scenarios for tabletop skirmishes that could be fought using the rules in THE SWORD AND THE FLAME, THE SWORD IN AFRICA, or THE MEN WHO WOULD BE KINGS.

BRITANNIA'S MISSION: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES AUGUST 1883 – FEBRUARY 1884 was written by Antoine Vanner and published in 2018 by Old Salt Press (ISBN 978 1 9434 0423 0) and can be purchased via Amazon.

The seven books in the series that have been published to date are:
  • BRITANNIA'S WOLF: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES: SEPTEMBER 1877 – FEBRUARY 1878
  • BRITANNIA'S REACH: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES: NOVEMBER 1879 – APRIL 1880
  • BRITANNIA'S SHARK: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES: APRIL 1881 – SEPTEMBER 1881
  • BRITANNIA'S SPARTAN: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES: JUNE 1859 AND APRIL 1882 – AUGUST 1882
  • BRITANNIA'S AMAZON: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES: APRIL 1882 – AUGUST 1882
  • BRITANNIA'S MISSION: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES AUGUST 1883 – FEBRUARY 1884
  • BRITANNIA'S GAMBLE: THE DAWLISH CHRONICLES: MARCH 1884 – FEBRUARY 1885

  1. I picked up a couple of these at a used book store but have yet to read them. Looks like that time has come.

I'm surprised that you haven't read any of the books in this series before as they are exactly the sort of stories that you'd enjoy.

      All the best,

    1. Antoine Vanner,

I’ve enjoyed all your books so far and hope that I can help to make them even more well-known.

I’ve just finished the latest book, and it is a real corker! From a wargamer’s point of view, the descriptions and maps make it very easy to reproduce the battles on the tabletop.

I’m already looking forward to your next book,

      All the best,

      Bob
