I have been to ... Cartagena Military Museum: Armoured Fighting Vehicles and Self-propelled Artillery

The museum has a small collection of armoured fighting vehicles and self-propelled artillery on display.

T-26 Tank
This tank was designed and built in Russia, and supplied to the Republican forces during the Spanish Civil War. It was then captured by the Nationalists, who painted it with red and yellow bands on the turret to make sure that it was not mistaken for one in Republican service.

Some of the tank's armour has been removed so that it is possible to see the internal layout.

StuG III Assault Gun
This German designed and built assault gun was supplied to the Spanish Army during the Second Word War.

M44 155mm Self-propelled Howitzer
The chassis of the M44 Self-propelled Howitzer was based on the M41 Walker Bulldog tank chassis, and was first introduced in the early 1950s. There were some problems with the original design, and it was not fully introduced into service until 1954.

M110 203mm (8-inch) Self-propelled Howitzer
This self-propelled howitzer entered service with the US Army in 1963, and was subsequently supplied to at least twenty countries, including Spain. Sixty-four M110A2 equipped Spanish divisional fire support regiments, where they were in front-line service until 2009.

  1. Really interesting stuff. Particularly like the pics of civil war T26, will replicate the identifying nationalist colours when I next revisit my SCW collection.

    1. Adelaide Gamer,

I'm very pleased that you found the photograph of the T-26 useful.

      All the best,

  2. The T-26 always looks to me like one of those tanks that would fit in your garage - if you cleared it out of boxes that is!

    1. Geordie an Exile FoG,

You are right. It is not that large a vehicle, and although you'd need a fair-sized garage, it would just about fit.

      All the best,

      Bob
