Preparing for COW: My 'to do' list

With COW just a few days away, I have a 'to do' list prepared to make sure I don't forget anything. It includes the following:
  • COW admin tasks:
    • Send Knuston Hall the final list of attendees and their contact details (for Health and Safety reasons)
    • Send Knuston Hall the final room allocation/mobility needs/dietary issues list
    • Pay Knuston Hall any outstanding monies due to them
    • Check with Knuston Hall that the conference dates for next year are correct and that the projected costings have not changed
    • Prepare the attendees' badges
    • Ensure that spare COW programmes have been printed and are available
    • Ensure that the A0-size COW timetable has been printed
    • Ensure that I have everything that I need for the AGM
    • Print off a COW2020 'signing on' sheet to record any bookings and deposits that are made by the end of COW2019
Knuston Hall, Northamptonshire.
  • Session-related tasks:
    • Pack the game boards into a suitable bag or box to ensure that they arrive undamaged
    • Pack the figures, models, and terrain into the REALLY USEFUL BOXES they will be stored and carried in
    • Pack the necessary die, playing cards etc. into their storage boxes
    • Print off copies of the individual player briefings
    • Print off copies of the rules for each player
    • Print off the session 'signing' on sheet for the COW noticeboard
  • Plenary Game-related tasks:
    • Read the briefing and do some research into the life of the character I am portraying in the game*
  • Other tasks:
    • Make sure that my mobile phone is fully charged (I will need it for the Plenary Game)
    • Make sure that my digital camera is fully charged and that I have the spare batteries
    • Make sure that the laptop is fully charged and that the software is up to date
    • Pack several changes of clothes and washing kit!
This seems to be quite some list, but many of the tasks have been completed or will be completed by the end of today.

* I am taking on the role of Yasser Arafat ... and have been asked by the game's designers and umpires to dress accordingly ... so I've had to delve into my wardrobe to find suitable clothing! (i.e. a military-style jacket, sun glasses, a keffiyeh, an aqel ... and possibly a replica firearm).

  1. Good list, Bob. Need to make my own and get my kit sorted out.

Very excited about the coming weekend. I'm Kurt Waldheim. A peace maker at a wargames conference. I think I'm might have been stitched up.

    1. Trebian,

I'm not a great lover of lists, but they can be helpful when preparing for something like COW ... and ticking things off as they get done helps one to see how much progress (or lack of it) one is making.

      All the best,

      Bob

PS. At least all you will have to do when it comes to dressing the part is look smart.

  2. Isn't there anyone else doing the necessary for COW? It would seem that you are doing it all - quite a reverse from ennui! LOL

    1. Dick Bryant,

Tim Gow has organised the COW programme of events ... which is by no means the easiest of tasks. The way we have split the tasks seems to match our particular skill sets.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Steve J.,

I hope to do a brief daily report, with a longer and more detailed one at some point next week.

      All the best,

      Bob
