As a follow on to his recent battle report about the The Battle of Hak-al-Kumara (see From the Chronicles of Rajistan..., From the Chronicles of Rajistan (2), and From the Chronicles of Rajistan (3) - The Battle of Hak-al-Kumara for further details), Archduke Piccolo has just written a battle report about the next battle in the campaign, the Battle of of Cpistupon.
The battle report is in two parts:
Amongst other things, the battle featured a very nice model gunboat ...
... and some heavy coastal defence artillery ...
... both of which were scratch-built by Archduke Piccolo.
The battle showed that even relatively poor quality troops in properly constructed defences can withstand attacks by a superior enemy.

ReplyDeleteArchduke Piccolo has done a very nice job of Scratch Building the Little Gunboat- a splendid model. Although meant for 1/72nd the Gunboat model would do very nicely for 15mm as well. Cheers. KEV.

Thanks for your kind comments! From memory, the boat scale (insofar as 'scale' is applicable) is very roughly 1:360. My ACW gunboats (also scratch-made) are about 1:300. I find this scale 'looks' right for 1:72 ground figures, and agree it would look even better for 1:120 (15mm).

DeleteSome years ago I built a number of model ships for use with land-based wargames where the scale height was approximately 1:00th-scale, the width 1:200th-scale, and the length 1:400th-scale. The resulting 'cartoon'-style ships looked right, and I've used this technique every since.
I happen to think that your model gunboat is superb in that it conveys the main features of this type of vessel and yet is not so large as to dominate your tabletop.

That's a fine looking Gunboat Bob, but I see that like the ones you built for Khartoum they seem to be bullet magnets (or should that read artillery magnets)
