My tried and very trusty proof reader did an astonishingly fast job, and sent the list of errors and corrections to me over the weekend. I made the necessary changes, and this afternoon I have uploaded the files to Lulu.com and requested printed proof copies. These should be arriving sometime in the next fortnight, and once I have checked them over, the book will be published.

I like the ‘spotted’ reference. I’d not made the connection until you pointed it out.
Will it be a best seller? Not sure, but I hope it sells as well as the Napoleonic book, and helps to spread the word regarding the benefits of colonial wargaming.

Don't be too gentle on Bob - perhaps we should bombard him with ideas for the next book!! Really looking forward to the book being available in 2 weeks or so. In the meantime I hope to start on some 20mm Indian Mutiny figures - any clues on basing for these rules?

DeleteI already have plans for further books, including a compendium of variant written by other wargamers.
I’ve included both single and multiple figures base options in the forthcoming books. I’ve done this so that wargamers can use existing figures. My personal preference for 20mm figures would be to use individual figure bases, probably based on steel washers or pennies.

I like to make my stuff available in formats to suit all potential players requirements. That way I can spread the word about the PW rules without expecting players to lay out lots of money for something they are not sure they will enjoy using.
If you want to share stuff with other PW users, you could always join the Portable Wargame group on io or you could send it to one of my email addresses. The best one to use is probably wargamer @ ntlworld.com ... but don’t forget to leaving out the spaces.

The downside of the shut down: as all but essential services in this country are being shut down for several weeks it looks as though I won't be placing an order until that time is past (playing it safe). I know which copy I want; the US trade-sized full colour chappy. But I guess I can wait another month or so...

DeleteDespite the lockdown - which is by no means total - the UKs postal service is still functioning, and as far as I know, Lulu.com is still processing orders, so I’m expecting that the printed proof copies will be with me within a fortnight. I’ll let you know when the book is released for publication.

DeleteI looked back at the time it took Lulu.com to print proof copies my previous books, and it usually took five working days plus a day for delivery. If they manage to follow this timetable for THE PORTABLE COLONIAL WARGAME, I should be able to release it for publication sometime next week.
