VCOW: What next?

Later this morning, the small group that organised last week's VCOW (the Virtual Conference of Wargamers) will be having a meeting to discuss what lessons were learned and what our next steps should be. An online survey has been prepared, and it will be sent to all the attendees in the near future.

We have already had some informal feedback from some of the people who attended and/or ran sessions, and to date it has all been very positive. Many asked if we were likely to run a similar event in the future, and that is one of the main points that will be discussed at this morning's meeting. My personal opinion is that it would not be very difficult to organise and run something like VCOW again later this year or early next year, either for one or two days.

If we do decided to run another VCOW, you can be sure that I will keep my regular blog readers up to date with what is happening.

  1. This is a potentially exciting development. A good example of how, not wishing to sound glib, the Corona-crisis has stimulated innovation and new opportunities.

    1. Nundanket,

We will be meeting again later in the year to review the situation, but I fully expect that there will be another VCOW early next year.

VCOW has helped WD to widen the potential attendance at a conference. Unfortunately, Knuston Hall can only accommodate a certain number of people ... and we had at least 50% more people at VCOW than can come to COW.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. One thing that you may like to consider is to record the sessions and publish the videos for those unable to attend. Even putting them onto Vimeo at £5 for the set may help cover the costs and get a few more folk interested in this side of gaming...

    1. Andyroo,

The success of VCOW was such that we are giving serious thought to making recordings of sessions available online. Because we had not sought permission from speakers beforehand, this makes this difficult for the sessions at the recent VCOW, but we are looking into it.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Pete.,

I am pleased to read that you enjoyed VCOW.

I suspect that it might become an (ir)regular feature of WD’s annual activities.

      All the best,

      Bob
