Other people's Portable Wargame battle reports: Mark Cordone's Saumurai battle and Paul David Leeson's Battle of Fuentes de Onoro

The last week or so has seen a number of interesting battle reports appear on the PORTABLE WARGAME Facebook page. In particular, Mark Cordone's battle between two small Samurai armies ...

... and Paul David Leeson's Battle of Fuentes de Onoro, which includes examples of his take on 2.5D buildings.

Paul's British Army for the Battle of Fuente de Onoro.
Paul's French Army for the Battle of Fuentes de Onoro.

The former features Mark's interesting homemade square terrain tile system, which includes some simple but effective 2.5D buildings, whilst the latter uses Paul's army-level development of the PORTABLE NAPOLEONIC WARGAME rules.

Yet again, users of the PORTABLE WARGAME have shown just how flexible the basic rules can be and how innovative thinking can adapt them to suit individual user's requirements. If I was wearing a hat, I would take it off to them!

  1. Hi Bob, Thank you for your kind words. I do believe your concept works well and is a great 'tool kit' as you so often say. I am set to retire at the end of the year and hope to spend a lot more time on my hobbies. I am sure the PNW rule set can be developed up to Army level and down to Company/Troop level for outpost actions. I also like Arthur Harman's skirmish line add on rules which I intend to test out soon. So much to do! Roll on retirement!! Regards, Paul.

    1. PDL (Paul),

It was a really enjoyable battle report to read, and I hope that when you retire, you will share even more of your wargames with the rest of us.

I look forward to seeing you push the envelope regarding my PNW rules, and I am already thinking of adapting the army-level rules for the ACW and other mid nineteenth century wars.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Bob, have you had many reports or photos of folks using your rules but with 6mm or 10mm figures? I'm thinking about either making games which are very portable in size, or games which might have a bigger visual impact.

    1. Jon S,

There are plenty of users who use smaller scale figures. There are quite a few examples on the Portable Wargame Facebook page, and a look through the photos and posts should give you plenty of ideas.

      All the best,

      Bob
