I suppose that it was inevitable ...

During the night I began to feel unwell. I was shivering, could not stop coughing, had a headache, and seemingly ached in every joint. By 7.30am I had had enough, and I decided that I needed to see if I had flu or COVID-19. I took a lateral flow test ... and I got a positive result.

I have reported my result to the NHS COVID app, and I have had a message back that states that I am probably infectious and must isolate until 1st March or until I have two consecutive days of negative lateral flow tests. Sue has yet to take a test, but it looks as if she will have to join me in purdah for the next eleven days.

One result of this test result is that the February issue of THE NUGGET will be late as I have not yet managed to post it! Please bear with me, and I will post it out as soon as I am clear of the virus.

  2. BOB,
Oh-Dear! Testing Positive to Covid- and Isolating for near a fortnight isn't fun at all - hope you get well soon and that Sue doesn't come down with it at all as well. Some of our Friends here have had Covid and all have recovered within a relatively short time period without any after effects. In one Family all four Kids had it, Mum and Dad had it - though Grandma escaped without it- all have recovered there at Tanilba Bay up at the Central Coast of New South Wales. Best Wishes. KEV.

  5. Yesterday I listened to a very interesting and informative lecture on the Black Death.....but that's not the same thing.

Hopefully you will avoid any complications and be healthy again soon.

  6. Hello Bob,

Really sorry to hear that as I know just how careful you both are. I suspect that Sue will come down with it so I hope that both of you do not get extreme symptoms.

Take care, rest east, drink plenty of fluids and take paracetamol - it helps.

    All the best,

    DC

  8. Bob, Sorry to hear this. I hope you will soon recover - as my daughter did when she caught it in December - and suffer no long-term effects.
    Best wishes, Arthur

  9. I think you’re right it is inevitable but so much better to get it after a triple vaccine so I’m sure you will be fine! Also it’s not a forgone conclusion that your wife will get it as from experience it seems pretty random even within the same household.

  10. Sorry to hear you caught the new plague, Bob. Seems unfair, but almost inevitable, despite best efforts to avoid (I was v cautious, but Santa brought it for me as a Christmas surprise…however, despite sharing the house for a week neither wife nor daughter picked it up, so fingers crossed for Sue).
Hoping it’s a mild one, and that you soon recover.
    All the best

  15. I'm sorry to hear you got it, I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for you and Sue. They say the new strain is less severe, and I hope this proves true for you. For what it's worth, I'm fully vaccinated and boosted and when I had it over New Years I had almost no symptoms and only found out I had it by accident. ( I was in the hospital for something else and it turned up with the mandatory test.)
    Get well soon!

  16. Distressing news--seems that you rolled a one and got the breakthrough infection. Let's hope that the vaccine gives you a +1 on your next die roll for recovery!

  24. Sorry to hear, Bob. Here's hoping it's mild enough to get in some solo gaming.

  25. Wishing you well Bob. I'm uncomfortable with the reported lifting of all restrictions here given the number of triple vaccinated people I know who have caught it and been quite unwell with it, not seriously ill but enough to require bed rest. Hope you recover quickly.

  26. I caught it in early January after a masonic meeting but fortunately had v mild symptoms - just a v minor sore throat. My 89 year old mum went into hospital in early Feb and caught it in hospital. She has managed to pass through the isolation period without any real effect so hopefully you will make a v speedy recovery.

    Regards,
    Guy

  27. I’m sorry that I haven’t felt well enough to reply to every comment, but I’d like to thank everyone who has sent their best wishes for my recovery. I’m very slowly getting better … but it’s taking much longer than I expected.

I’ll get there in the end.

    All the best,

    Bob
