Not bad considering the project began when I decided to find a use for some figures that were painted and unused in storage. All I had to do was to add some extra figures that were needed to round out what I had … et voila!
Thanks to the strips of steel paper fixed underneath each base and the magnetic sheets that line the forage boxes, it was a matter of minutes to set up … and it was well worth it!
Some of the figures have been in action during the Khakistan-Stalbanian War … but it would be nice to see the Burgundians and/or Schwarzenbergers deployed on my tabletop as well.
That is a grand sight for sure - looking forward to seeing them in action at some point! Certainly a great way to recycle some old figures so very economical to boot!
I reckon a small naval action would be a lot of fun with those models.
When you consider that the bulk of the Burgundian and Schwarzenberg figures were painted in 1983/84, they survived remarkably well in storage … and look great now they have been based.
It would be great to fight the odd naval action with these models.if only someone had written a suitable set of rules …
A lovely collection, but it looks as though Stalbania needs to launch A recruitment drive, or perhaps mass conscription. (With mixed or militia uniforms allowing you to use some of your other figures from a nation they are not fighting. Might make for an interesting narrative.)
What a wonderful sight to be sure, Bob! Fine looking armies and navies. Great set up for a great war. As presently constituted, perhaps the Stalbanians might fill the role of 'Les braves Belges'... ... and there is always the chance of a mass recruiting drive AFTER war is declared... Cheers (with a grin) Ion
One day, I hope to fight a Great War, but until then, it is going to have to be a series of Little Wars.
The Stalbanians managed to acquit themselves fairly well during the short Stalbanian-Khakistan War last January and February, but do need to raise some militia and/or reserves. I also have a small 'native' army in the wings waiting to be added to the collection, and I expect that they might prove troublesome at some point in the future.
The joy of projects like this is that they can be developed and added to as and when the mood takes you.
I’ve had wargaming imagi-nations since I was a child. My first were Opeland and it’s deadly enemy Upsland. They were both vaguely north European, and were equipped with a mixture of Airfix figures, vehicles, and aircraft and ROCO Minitanks.
I suppose that I could have sold these figures, but using them as the basis of this collection was much more rewarding … and I’ve found a few more that I think that I can add as and when I feel like it.

BOB,
ReplyDeleteVery neat and concise forces you have made here- delightful. Ready for battles for sure. Cheers. KEV.

For a man who's been through as much as you have over the past few months, you sure are a prolific painter/modeller. I salute you!

Magnificent! Though the poor old Stalbanians look a bit thin on the ground compared to the others ...
ReplyDeleteMike,
DeleteCheers! I hope to add some militia to the Stalbanian Army in the near future.

Have always enjoyed imagi-nations armies. A reat way to wargame and use up all those old and forgotten miniatures we all have stashed away.
