The Portable Wargame Compendium is now available in PDF format!

Wargames Vault have pulled out all the stops and have made THE PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM available online in watermarked PDF format.

It is on sale for the same price as the Kindle edition (£5.00 or its equivalent in local currency) and can be found here.

If this proves to be a success, I may well publish some of my other books in the same format with Wargames Vault.

  1. That looks like a good market place for digital versions of your books Bob.

    1. Maudlin Jack Tar,

It certainly does seem to have advantages if I want to publish PDFs of my books … and there are several that fall into that category.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Thanks Bob - I have just downloaded it and look forward to reading. I do have your Naval wargaming book and Developing the Portable wargame on Kindle but would certainly consider getting pdf versions as I find them so much more user friendly when it comes to printing off parts of the book.

Also, what is in the pipeline now?

    Cheers

    Simon

    1. Simon,

I hope that you enjoy reading the Compendium.

My last four books have been published using KDP/Amazon, which does not off the opportunity for people to buy them in PDF format. Thanks to Wargames Vault, I am hoping that I can rectify that.

As to what will be next … well, a Portable American Civil War Wargame book is on the cards along with a second compendium.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Glad to see your title there! It, and its sister site, DriveThruRPG, are far and away my preferred sources of wargame and RPG related rules and support material.

    1. John Y,

They certainly seem to offer an excellent service, particularly to those wargamers who prefer their rules in PDF format.

      All the best,

  4. Having spent the morning reading the Kindle version on my 10” tablet I can report that the experience was pretty good (which I doubt would have been the case on the smaller black and white screen of an e-ink Kindle, though I’ve not tried this) but there were a few infelicities which would almost certainly not be there on the PDF. (A not uncommon example is the text description of an image appearing on the next page, which is presumably an artefact of the e-book processing and which I am sure you have avoided in the printed version and hence the PDF.) So for this kind of title offering a PDF version seems a particularly good idea.

    1. Mike Hall,

I think that Kindle is a great format for fiction, but too often non-fiction books don’t look right for the reasons you state. I have copies of my books on my table in both Kindle and PDF format, and the latter is by far and away the best, especially when it comes to tables, picture captions etc.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Stephen Smith,

I’m glad that you’ve enjoyed the contents of the Compendium. Arthur Harman is a bit of an expert when it comes to the ECW, and his contributions are always first class.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Peter,

Thanks for your best wishes regarding my current health problems.

I’m extremely pleased that you have enjoyed reading the PW Compendium. I think that your Snakes & Ladders campaign system needed to be far better known, which is why I included it the Compendium.

      All the best,

      Bob
