The Army of Hyderapore
Rather than use all the turbaned figures from my 15mm Mahdist army to create the Harabian army, I selected a few of them to form the Army of Hyderapore.
The army's main distinguishing feature is the colour of its turban, which is Cerulean Blue.
Bob, Perhaps the Rajah could emulate Major-General Sir David Ochterlony. "As the official British Resident at Delhi, David Ochterlony adopted and thoroughly embraced Indo-Persian culture of Mughals. He was reputed to have thirteen Indian concubines (as seen by the British) or wives (as seen by others). Every evening, he used to take all thirteen of his wives on a promenade around the walls of the Red Fort, each on the back of her own elephant." (from Wikipedia) That would be a sight on the wargame table! Best wishes, Arthur
I’d never heard of the general, but taking an Indian wife (or several) was not unknown in the early days of the Raj. Sue has a relative who served with the HEIC, and there is evidence that he had an Indian wife whilst he was in India.
I’m definitely in favour of acquiring an elephant or two as Hyderapore will probably not be my only Chindian imagi-nation.
Elephants would be interesting. Perhaps with some sort of light artillery mounted on top, your ancients rules for them should work very well grafted onto to the colonial game and would make for some interesting battles.

Bob,
ReplyDeleteAn Indian army without an elephant?!
Shurely shome mishtake?
Arthur
Arthur 1815 (Arthur),
DeleteIt hasn’t got one … yet!
I’m hoping to either add one to tow a big gun or to act as transport for the Rajah … or perhaps even both!
All the best,
Bob

ReplyDeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteWell, I’ve featured elephants on the country’s flag, so I’d better get some (or at least one) for the Hyderaporean Army.
All the best,
Bob
