The MF&FMLR model railway project: A problem solved

The fact that I had chosen the wrong (and far too dark) paint with which to cover my layout's baseboard was quickly resolved after a trip to THE RANGE, where I was able to buy two colour tester pots of Johnstone's Toasted Beige matt emulsion paint.

Johnstone's Toasted Beige, as shown on their colour chart.

In fact, I only need one to give my board two coats of paint, after which all trace of the previous Burnt Umber colour was gone.

The stage was now set for me to tackle the task of creating a marsh on my layout ... something I intended to do after doing a trawl through the Internet and YouTube.

  1. Good to see that you are documenting the creation of your railway - maybe you could write it up / submit it as an article for one of the railway modelling magazines once completed and running? A crossover with toy soldiers and wargames is an interesting twist or hook.

    1. Mark, Man of TIN,

I had been thinking of something along the lines you suggest … possible as a YouTube video.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. BOB,
Glad to hear your making progress on your Model Railway. I'm still waiting on postage from the UK...now up to 30+ days...it is my last item from the UK and I've decided that I shall never order from the UK ever again- I just cannot go through this endless waiting. Stay well there friend. Cheers. KEV.

  3. At first I thought the picture wouldn't load correctly on my laptop so I took a look at it here only to discover you posted a picture of the paint sample.

    1. Mr. Pavone,

Sorry about that but I wanted readers to get some idea what the colour looked like.

      All the best,

    1. The Good Soldier Svjek (Tony),

The paint has dried and looks very similar in colour to the colour swatch … which - as you comment - is not always the norm.

      All the best,

      Bob

  5. Thanks for the clue on earth colour, Bob. That certainly looks the part ✔️. (I don’t have a local Range, but will try to grab a testpot next time I’m near one).

    1. Martin S.,

Glad to have been of help. The paint is sold in most of the big DIY shops as it is made by one of the big manufacturers.

      All the best,

      Bob
