Twenty-five weeks

Yesterday, for the first time in twenty-five weeks, I managed to go up to the first and second floors of our house ... thanks to a newly-installed stairlift!

After getting quotes from the largest manufacturers of stairlifts in the UK, we eventually chose a model that would reach right to the top of our house on a single, continuous rail. It automatically charges its electric batteries and stops when it reaches the first floor landing, both going up and coming down. It then needs to be 'told' to either go up to the top floor or down to the ground floor, which it does faster than I was able to before I broke my leg! It even comes with remote controls so that it can be sent up or down without me having to sit on it.

I now have far more freedom than I had even just a week ago, and although it is still going to be some time before things return to anything like normal, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and the distance to emerge seems to be getting shorter.

Cheers! I am taking things easy as I am still learning both how to use my crutches to get about and how to get on and off the stairlift safely using them ... which is a knack that I am going to have to learn.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. That's great news, Bob!
The million dollar question now is - can you get into your gaming room?

    1. David in Suffolk,

Cheers! I have been up to my toy/wargame room once, earlier today. I hope to be able to spend some time up there over the weekend as it needs a bit of tidying up due to it being left unused for nearly six months. Once that is done ... well, who knows?

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. BOB,
Well that is just great Bob that you now have the Chair Lift and you can now reach your Hobby Room. I thought the instillation would be a way off yet - though now it is done- just terrific for you. Cheers. KEV.

Acorn Stairlifts were able to instal the stairlift in less than a week … so we went for it! They were also a bit cheaper than at least one of their competitors.

I can now get up to my toy/wargame show and our home office … and once the first is tidied up, let the wargaming (and railway modelling!) begin!

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. That's great news. Now that you can visit your games room, you will be able to get some hobby time up there or collect small quantities to use downstairs. You just need to invent a portable wargame - no, wait, you already have!
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you can get about the house, and the worst part of this is behind you.

    1. Pompey Dave,

Cheers! I have a few plans … but first I need to tidy up my toy/wargame room and then I can start on a project or two.

      All the best,

Cheers! It’s not the fastest means of transport in the world … but it’s still faster getting up and down stairs than I was before I broke my leg!

      All the best,

      Bob

With a bit of luck - and some time spent tidying up my toy/wargame room - I hope to begin proper wargaming soon.

      All the best,

  7. Bravo! A quality of life improvement, indeed. Not only speedier ascending and descending than before, but with the remote control feature you can now have your gin and tonics sent up to you: oh brave new world!

    1. Ed M,

Cheers! It’s still a bit of a novelty going up and down stairs on the stair lift … and once I’ve got the hang of using it, no doubt it will be used to carry stuff up and down as well.

      All the best,

      Bob

  8. Hey Bob

This is so cool and the hooligan in me is picturing one in my house (which has no upstairs, but anyway) painted Panzer Grey whizzing around singing Horst Wessel or somesuch. Or making choo choo noises.

I am pleased to see you rising to your mobility challenges.

    Be strong and blessings

I have yet to find a wargaming purpose for the stairlift … but no doubt I will do so … eventually.
