In the light of the recent feedback I received from Ross Mac and arthur1815 and the resulting possible changes I outlined in my previous blog entry, I have now revised the original draft of the lashed-together amalgam of Joseph Morschauser's 'Musket' and 'Frontier' wargames rules I used for the 'Battle of the Bridge over the Rio Blanco'.
The latest draft looks like this:
I hope to play-test these revised rules in the near future, after which they will no doubt undergo further alterations!
PS. In answer to a question that was posed to me by a regular blog reader, it is possible to fit these rules onto the back of a postcard, but the font size has to be reduced to 6pt!

Did you mean to say rifles move faster than regular infantry? Shouldn't they both move 2 squares?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm wondering what people think about making the squares staggered, like bricks?
Fitz-Badger,
ReplyDeleteIn these rules - which have been written for a series of battles where there is only one Unit of Rifles - the Rifles do move faster. In Morschauser's original 'Musket' rules Light Infantry had the same capability of moving faster than Line Infantry, so it is also a carry-over from them as well.
A grid of staggered lines of squares are a very good alternative to hexes, and I have used them in the past. They could easily be used with these rules (as would hexes); all that would be needed would be a small number of changes to the wording.
All the best,
Bob
