A Merry Christmas ... and one million hits!

I would like to wish everyone who reads my blog a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Greenwich Park in the snow, 2011. We aren't having a white Christmas in London this year ... but this photograph will serve to remind us of what one can look like!

Due to an amazing increase in the number of 'hits' registered a few days ago, the visit counter I added to my blog on the 11th February 2009 has been ticking closer and closer to 1,000,000 ... and it reached that magic number today.

When I began blogging back in September 2008, I never expected that it would have such a profound effect on my life in general and my wargaming in particular. It has helped me to achieve numerous goals that I might otherwise not have reached (writing on your blog that you are going to do something rather publicly commits you to do it!) and it has brought me into contact with a huge number of friendly, imaginative, creative, and innovative wargamers.

It has taken nearly six years for me to reach one million hits. I don't know if my blog will ever achieve two million hits ... but I hope I will have fun finding out if it will!

  1. Congratulations Bob--well deserved! Yours was the first blog I ever read, based on a recommendation on TMP. Even years ago, it contained an amazing amount of thought-provoking, useful information, which has profoundly enriched my enjoyment of the hobby. You also pointed me towards other interesting blogs, and what they had to offer.

So, thank you, and long may your blog continue!

    Very best regards,

    Chris

When people blunder about on the Internet and find my blog, I am more than happy to point them towards blogs like yours, working on the assumption that I find them really thought-provoking, fun, and interesting, other people will do as well

I hope that you and Kathy had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

    All the best,

  22. Michael Peterson,

It is always great to hear such kind comments from some of my more far-flung regular blog readers, and even more so when it is from you! It is also great to read that the weather is not as cold as it usually is in the centre of Canada at this time of year. Here in the UK we get all worked up about a bit a couple of inches of snow that seem to bring the whole world to a halt, whereas in Canada you just seem to shrug a little and get on with life.

I hope that you and your family had a great Christmas and can look forward to having a Happy New Year.

    All the best,

    Bob

  26. Hi Bob,

Many, many congratulations on reaching this epic milestone! Your blog is always a source of inspiration and has been a major source of ideas for my own adventures - usually in directions I would never have considered.

I like to think that all those other hits feel the same way and that long may you continue.

    All the best,

    DC

  27. David Crook,

Many thanks for your kind congratulations. I've always tried to write things that I thought might interest and inspire other people ... and I seem to have been reasonably successful in achieving my aim. I hope that I can continue to be so for as long as people want to read what I write.

    All the best,

    Bob
