A Scale Modeller's Guide to Aircraft of the Gran Chaco War

Very soon after making me aware of the recent publication of AIR WAR CHACO, Arthur Harman pointed out that a book entitled A SCALE MODELLER'S GUIDE TO AIRCRAFT OF THE GRAN CHACO WAR has also been published ... so I bought a copy of that as well!

The book is a thin paperback (40 pages) but it contains numerous 1:72nd-scale colour drawings of all the main aircraft types used by both sides during the Chaco War. It also contains a brief history of the war as well as a chronology of the main air operations carried out by both sides. Whilst it was not cheap, it is a very helpful addition to my collection of books etc., about the Chaco War.

A SCALE MODELLER'S GUIDE TO AIRCRAFT OF THE GRAN CHACO WAR was written and illustrated by Richard Humberstone and published by Blue Rider Publishing in 2015 (ISBN 978 1 32 055024 6)

Funnily enough, I've bought a copy and will be reviewing it in the near future.

      All the best,

  2. Bob,
Are you thinking of doing the Chaco War in 15mm as a Portable game- is there a Company that make Chaco War figures in 15mm? Or would you convert 1/72nd plastic figures. Interesting topic. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson,

I actually have two Chaco War armies made up of very old 15mm Peter Laing Miniatures. I would need to rebase them if I wanted to use them in PW games, and it is an option I am considering.

      All the best,

  3. Bob,
I Just had a look at FREI CORPS 15mm- they do Spanish-American figures and they are superb....awfully tempting. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson,

FREI CORPS do several great ranges of figures for South American wars, including the Spanish-American War, and they are very nicely sculpted figures. I agree; they are very tempting.

      All the best,

  4. Khurusan in the U.S. and Irregular Miniatures here in the UK have dedicated Chaco War ranges both in 15mm.
There is a company (Orinoco??) Who do it in 28mm.
Shapeways have most of the aircraft in 1/144 and possibly other scales as 3D prints.

    1. Neil Paterson,

I've seen the IRREGULAR MINIATURES Chaco War figures, and they certainly have the right 'look'. In addition, it would not be too expensive to put together Bolivian and Paraguayan PW armies. I know of at least one person who has, and they look great!

      All the best,

      Bob
