My latest book sales figures

Lulu.com have just sent me my latest book sales figures, and they look like this:

As I would have expected, sales of THE PORTABLE WARGAME and DEVELOPING THE PORTABLE WARGAME continue to grow, although not as fast as they once did. This is hardly surprising as I suspect that majority of people who were going to buy a copy would have done so by now.

One thing that does surprise me is that no one has yet bought an electronic copy of LA ULTIMA CRUZADA. Judging by my other book sales, I expected the electronic version to out sell both the hardback and paperback editions, but as yet that does not appear to be happening. It might well be related to the fact that Amazon has only recently begun to list it.

As to Amazon's sales of the hardback and paperback editions of LA ULTIMA CRUZADA not seeming to appear on the sales figures I received from Lulu.com, this has not been cleared up. They were there ... but listed as being sales made by Ingram (Print), which is part of Amazon. Simple really ... but nonetheless confusing to the uninitiated.

  1. Bob,
Wow! 1400 for the Total Sales for your Portable Wargame book in it's various forms- that is some tally. You'd be very pleased. Good going there. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson,

My books have sold far more copies than I ever hoped for ... and I have more in the pipeline.

The books that will be out this year will include THE MADASAHATTA CAMPAIGN (in hardback as a tribute to the late Eric Knowles, GRIDDED NAVAL WARGAMES (in eBook, paperback, and hardback), and MASTER AT WAR: THE FIRST WORLD WAR. The last is a book about the members of Hertfordshire Masters' Lodge who served during the Great War, and will be published to mark the end of the First World War.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Well done! Good to see the "real" books selling well in addition to the electronic ones.

    1. Ross Mac,

Cheers! It's great that the books are selling in both hardback and paperback formats as well as as eBooks. Interestingly, the feedback I have had is that quite a few people buy the eBook and then buy a hard copy edition because they like to have a physical copy they can read and use.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Glad to see that sales are going well. Anthony and I will be doing our best to promote the rules again as we are running the 19th Century 54mm Portable Wargame participation game at the Valhalla show at Farnborough in June and then again at Colours at Newbury in September.

    1. Mike Lewis,

Thanks for all your efforts. I hope to see your game in action sometime this year.

  4. I could be wrong but I don't think that Ingram is a part of Amazon. It has various operations one of which is acting as a book wholesaler so it could be that Lulu are supplying Ingram who are distributing to Amazon?

Ingram also have a POD operation which could be printing the books when they are ordered by Amazon. Amazon has its own POD operation/publisher in Createspace (though I think there is also another as part of is Kindle KDP operation).

I wonder if people are buying paper versions of La Ultima Cruzada because they assume it will have lots of illustrations? As for you final comment, I seem to have ended up owning both paperback and e-book versions of the Portable Wargame books. Congratulation on your continuing sales.

    1. Mike Hall,

It was Lulu.com who informed me that Ingram supplied Amazon with printed versions of my books because they were part of the same organisation. I must admit I found the explanation confusing as I thought that Amazon had their own POD operation.

I suspect that the eBook version of LA ULTIMA CRUZADA has not sold well because it was only recently released in electronic format. For some reason Lulu.com had not processed my change from private to public access until a month ago, and then Amazon took a fortnight to add it to their catalogue. With luck it might sell a few copies over the next couple of months.

      All the best,

      Bob
