I have been to … the Naval Museum, Malta: Introduction

The Naval Museum on Malta is located in the area of Valletta known as Vittoriosa. The building is the former Royal Naval Dockyard bakery, and was built on the site previously occupied by the covered arsenal that was used by the Knights of St John.

The Museum was set up in 1992 and it is split into three main areas or halls. These are:
  • Anadrian Hall
  • Order of the Knights of St John Hall
  • Royal Navy Hall
These will be covered in detail in future blog entries.

The Museum also has at least one resident cat … who made their presence known – and demanded attention from – to any visitor who happened to be walking past!

The area around the Museum is now used as a marina …

… and hosts several bars and restaurants … and a static steam engine that was formerly used in the old Royal Dockyard.

  2. Hi Bob,

I will be interested to see this as I missed it during our holiday in Malta a few years back. We must have just about everything else though!

    All the best,

  3. Arthur,

    Thanks for your comments.

Although I have been to Venice and Dubrovnik many times, they are always worth going back to ... and Malta was somewhere that I had always wanted to visit, and now I hope to go back there again someday.

    All the best,

    Bob

  4. David Crook,

For such a small place, there is one hell of a lot of things to do and places to see in Malta!

We certainly want to go back someday if we can, if only to see some of the things we missed on our first visit.

    All the best,

    Bob
