Keeping clippings

Over the years I have bought a large number of wargaming and/or modelling magazines, and every so often I go through them and cut out anything that I think that I might find of use in the future or that is just plain inspirational. These clippings are kept in a box ... and when the box is full, the clippings are filed into plastic wallets that fit into A4-size, four-ring binders.

I noticed that the clippings box was almost full last week, and today I have spent quite a few hours sorting and filing ... and also having a jolly good read! It made a chore into an enjoyable experience ... and I wish that I could say that about some of the other things that I have had to do recently.

  1. I have been slowly scanning the clippings I have collected over the years. That way I get to lose them on my computer rather than lose them in my study/shed/studio. If I get really clever I try and link them to a blog posting if relevant and hope to subsequently use the blogger labels to help me find whatever it is I was looking for. So far this is working well for old photos.

  2. I occasionally cull my magazines in a similar manner and file them by topic. Before the advent of home color scanners /printers I used to hate finding disparate articles sharing a page, even if back to back.

  3. Thanks for the idea of scanning magazines into a hobby archive.

I have so many that I'm reluctant to part with but something has to give.

  4. Sun of York,

I had never thought of scanning in my clippings ... but it makes a lot of sense to do so.

Something for me to think about as it would save me a lot of shelf/filing space.

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. Ross Mac,

I also hate the thought of having any part of an unwanted article in my files, and scanning them in would be a very simple solution.

    All the best,

    Bob

  6. Jim Duncan,

It is a very good idea, isn't it? It would certainly save me a fair amount of space and still give me access if and when I needed it.

    All the best,

    Bob
