Over the years I have bought a large number of wargaming and/or modelling magazines, and every so often I go through them and cut out anything that I think that I might find of use in the future or that is just plain inspirational. These clippings are kept in a box ... and when the box is full, the clippings are filed into plastic wallets that fit into A4-size, four-ring binders.
I noticed that the clippings box was almost full last week, and today I have spent quite a few hours sorting and filing ... and also having a jolly good read! It made a chore into an enjoyable experience ... and I wish that I could say that about some of the other things that I have had to do recently.

I have been slowly scanning the clippings I have collected over the years. That way I get to lose them on my computer rather than lose them in my study/shed/studio. If I get really clever I try and link them to a blog posting if relevant and hope to subsequently use the blogger labels to help me find whatever it is I was looking for. So far this is working well for old photos.
ReplyDeleteI occasionally cull my magazines in a similar manner and file them by topic. Before the advent of home color scanners /printers I used to hate finding disparate articles sharing a page, even if back to back.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea of scanning magazines into a hobby archive.
ReplyDeleteI have so many that I'm reluctant to part with but something has to give.
Sun of York,
ReplyDeleteI had never thought of scanning in my clippings ... but it makes a lot of sense to do so.
Something for me to think about as it would save me a lot of shelf/filing space.
All the best,
Bob
Ross Mac,
ReplyDeleteI also hate the thought of having any part of an unwanted article in my files, and scanning them in would be a very simple solution.
All the best,
Bob
Jim Duncan,
ReplyDeleteIt is a very good idea, isn't it? It would certainly save me a fair amount of space and still give me access if and when I needed it.
All the best,
Bob
