Ofsted: The mini-series

We are still waiting for the 'phone call that will tell us that Ofsted are about to descend upon us. We expected it on Monday ... then on Tuesday ... and then again today ... but our expectations have been in vain. The suspense is worthy of a first-rate thriller. I should write it up; perhaps the BBC and HBO will turn it into a mini-series.

If they do, I wonder if they will allow me some input as to which actor I would like to portray me onscreen. Brad Pitt is far too young, and although he is a very good actor, Johnny Depp is not quite right. I posed this question to my students ... and they all suggested Ricky Tomlinson!

As will be obvious from this photograph, there is no resemblance at all between me – Bob Cordery (shown on the left) – and Ricky Tomlinson (shown on the right) … or is it the other way around?
I cannot for the life of me see why they have made that suggestion. We bear no resemblance to each other whatsoever!

  2. Bob,

Have you seen an optician lately? I fear that you might need new glasses.

  3. Don M,

Like Esau, I am 'an hairy man' ... well on the head, anyway. Personally, I think I would rather look like someone who says 'Let it be so' than 'My arse!' ... but then grass always looks greener over in the other field.

    All the best,

    Bob

  4. Bluebear Jeff,

I don't know what you mean. Surely you could not be one of those people who confuse a politically-aware, hard-core Socialist ...

... with an ugly bloke like me!

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. Bob, I always think of you as a real life Brian Blessed, the only actor who could do you justice!

Okay, so we've sorted out the casting of the hero - but who will play the villainous [Boo! Hiss!] Ofsted inspectors?

Assuming we can choose both living and dead [or should that be 'undead'?] actors, I'd suggest Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Max von Sydow and Christopher Lee, with Sir Larry reprising his classic portrayal of Richard [Key Stage] 3.

  6. BigLee,

The truth is that I have actually been asked for my autograph in a restaurant by someone who would not believe that I was not Ricky Tomlinson.

In the end, I signed a paper napkin using his name and she went away happy.

    All the best,

    Bob

  7. Arthur1815,

Some years ago I was in the West End outside a theatre where Brian Blessed was in a play ... and a passerby did mistake me for him (we both had full beards, longish hair, and booming voices ... a simple mistake to make!).

I did have a chuckle at your suggestions for actors who could play Ofsted inspectors in the mini-series. Christopher Lee would be a natural, but Lord Olivier in his roll as the Nazi dentist, Dr. Christian Szell, in the film 'Marathon man' would be my favourite. Apparently urbane and friendly, but quite willing to inflict pain on the innocent if he thought it would get him somewhere ... which is almost a definition of an Ofsted inspector!

    All the best,

    Bob
