As the weather was a bit cooler today I decided to do some more 'mining' (i.e. sorting through) the lead mountain that I found in the toolbox. By lunchtime I had managed to do about a third of what was left to be sorted, and the results are shown below.
First are the unpainted Hinton Hunt, Douglas, and Rose Miniatures American Civil War and Crimean War figures, ...
I am now about halfway through sorting the contents of the toolbox ... and have only removed figures that I think will be of use to me or to other wargamers. The figures that I have not removed are mainly broken, damaged, or miscast figures or figures that I cannot see any potential use for.

Are those Peter Laing figures for a WW1 project? I seem to recall a fine Battle Magazine article, I think by Stuart Asquith, about building a WW1 army in which then newly minted Peter Laing's figures and equipments provided the pictorial interest. I came 'this close' top beginning a whole new project, right there!
ReplyDeleteArchduke Piccolo,
ReplyDeleteThe Peter Laing figures are mainly American Civil War, Colonial, and World War I ones. Most were bought for my Chaco Wars, Spanish Civil War, and South American nineteenth century imagi-nation projects.
I remember the Battle magazine article, and I am sure that you are right and that it was written by Stuart Asquith.
All the best,
Bob
Great stuff Bob. Although I don't think I'll find as great stuff, I need to sort through the stuff I liberated from my parents attic last summer.
ReplyDeleteAnother amazing haul! The article you mention was indeed by Stuart and I still have my copy
ReplyDeleteIan
Ah! Peter Laing figures I still find them attractive after all these years
ReplyDeleteSean,
ReplyDeleteYou will probably be surprised by what you find in the attic; I was amazed by what I have found in our old shed.
All the best,
Bob
Ian Dury,
ReplyDeleteThere is still more to come!
I think that I also have a copy of that article somewhere in my filing system.
All the best,
Bob
A.W. Kitchen,
ReplyDeleteThe Peter Laing figures still have something about them that makes them very attractive. I only wish that they were still available.
All the best,
Bob
Bob, Archduke Piccolo, if you want copies of that Battle Magazine please let me know as I scanned it recently for someone else
ReplyDeleteIan Dury,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer. I have had a look through my filing system but cannot find my copy ... so I would really appreciate a scanned copy.
All the best,
Bob
Bob for years I have been trying to trace the resting place of the PL moulds. Mainly through appeals on TMP and LAF.
ReplyDeleteI have come to realise I can only bolster my WW1forces by purchase or swaps. I do have PL figs to exchange if you or anyone out therecwants to discuss?
Bezzo
I have some PL swaps which I will exchange for WW1 stuff if anyone wants to trade?
ReplyDeleteGeoff, I have seen your appeals on TMP and have been doing the same myself. Hopefully I can help on the swaps front, depending on what you need. Drop me a line on Ian dot dury at hotmail dot co dot uk
ReplyDeleteIan
Geoff Beswick,
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone in your quest. One of my regular blog readers - Ian Dury - has been trying to find the moulds as well. I wish you both good luck.
As to swopping Peter Laing figures ... well I have quite a few to get rid of and I have been waiting for Ian Dury to reply to an email I sent him asking if he wanted them. If his reply is negative, I would be only too please to pass on what I have.
All the best,
Bob
Geoff Beswick,
ReplyDeleteI think that Ian Dury has replied to your original comment. I know that he did have ideas about setting up some sort of group to buy and distribute any Peter Laing figures that became available, so he is probably the best person to contact.
All the best,
Bob
Ian Dury,
ReplyDeleteDid you get my email about the Peter Laing stuff that I want to pass on? Let me know if you are interested and we can arrange some way of swapping them - and the Minitank/Roskopf stuff - over.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob, afraid I didn't get your mail, but I am definitely still interested.
ReplyDeletePlease try my work e-mail

Ian Dury,
ReplyDeleteI will be in contact as soon as I can so that we can sort out a handover of the stuff that I have for you.
All the best,
