British mounted Officers

The final British figures from my collection of Del Prado pre-painted 25/28mm-scale Napoleonic figures that I have varnished and based are a number of mounted Officers ... including good old 'Nosey' (AKA His Grace, the Duke of Wellington).

Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG GCB GCH PC FRS (1st May 1769 to 14th September 1852) held a number of different peerages during his life:
  • Baron Douro of Wellesley in the County of Somerset (created 26th August 1809)
  • Viscount Wellington of Talavera, and of Wellington in the County of Somerset (created 26th August 1809)
  • Earl of Wellington (created 28th February 1812)
  • Marquess of Wellington (created 18th August 1812)
  • Marquess Douro (created 3rd May 1814)
  • Duke of Wellington (created 3rd May 1814)
He was also awarded a number of honours including:
  • Knight of the Bath (1804)
  • Privy Counsellor of Ireland (1807)
  • Privy Counsellor of the United Kingdom (1812)
  • Knight of the Garter (1813)
  • Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (1815)
  • Peninsular Cross (with nine bars for all the campaigns)
  • Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire (1820)
  • Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports (1829)
  • Chancellor of the University of Oxford (1834 to 1852)
  • Honorary Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (1842)
  • Fellow of the Royal Society (1847)

  1. Wonderful! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with all these figures when the armies are complete.

  2. It's been a joy following the basing of these figures, they really do have a charm of their own don't they? Do you plan to continue adding to them when ebay opportunities come along?

I must try to leave more comments Bob, I had intended to when to your fence blew down in the winds! You must have also been there during the great storm (87?) as we were, I still have photos of the devastation at Oxleas woods and all around the top of Shooters Hill ....... I actually slept through it :-)

Anyway, rambling there, all the best.

    Lee.

  3. Stryker,

Once the French are done I hope to begin using the collection. It has been sat in storage for far too long!

    All the best,

    Bob

To tell you the truth, I have already added a few more figures and hope to add more as and when I can.

I remember the 'great storm' as our guttering fell off and nearly speared our next door neighbours car. It was not something that I would like to experience again!

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. Bob,
Blucher was awarded an honorary doctorate by Oxford University. He is supposed to have said (in German, presumably), "If they are going to make me a doctor, they should make Gneisenau an apothecary, for he's the man who dishes out the pills I prescribe!"
I hope your collection includes a suitable figure of the old hussar.
    Regards,
    Arthur

  6. Arthur1815,

My Prussian troops have two mounted officers, Blucher and another ... who might be Gneisenau.

    All the best,

    Bob
