My thanks go to robertpeel999 for making me aware of a short film extract that is on vodpod. It is a film item from British Pathe News (the newsreel that was put on at the cinema between films) about Peter Cushing collecting model soldiers and playing wargames using the rules written by H.G.Wells in LITTLE WARS.

Thanks for sharing that link. Very interesting. Peter Cushing was a very cool guy and always struck me as being very down to earth, even with his international fame as an actor.
ReplyDeleteBigLee,
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I was very impressed with the serious way in which this news item was presented. Mind you, Peter Cushing did have a sort of presence about him that would have made flippancy seem out of place. That said, I understand that he had a great sense of humour, and was well known for not taking things very seriously at times. He was a really nice chap, and a great advert for wargaming and wargamers.
All the best,
Bob
Super video...reminded me of the late nite cigar sessions at Historicon here in the states! It looks like he was "gaming space challenged" like many of us are now...I love the way the camera pans back and the entire floor is covered! With wargaming, there's always a way!
ReplyDeleteLittlejohn,
ReplyDeleteI only wish that the film clip was a bit longer, and that we were actually able to see him play out a move or two. Mind you, at those ranges the number of 'hits' would have been quite high!
All the best,
Bob
A very interesting clip. Nice to see I'm not the only one who can paint with a paint-free brush!
ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeleteI never knew that was how you got such good paint jobs on your figures!
All the best,
Bob
