HMS Thunderer is commissioned!

I finally managed to finish painting my model of the unbuilt HMS Thunderer this morning ... and I am very pleased with the result.

I painted the ship overall dark grey, and then dry-brushed her with a slightly lighter shade of grey to pick out the smaller detail. It also gave the ship a somewhat less pristine and rather more workmanlike appearance. I then picked out the funnel tops and the decks of the larger of the ship's boats.

Now all she needs is an opportunity to face the enemy! Perhaps the Tirpitz ... or possibly even a Japanese battleship or two.

  1. Shouldn't there be some wooden decks somewhere Bob?

Otherwise it is a great model!

  2. Jim Duncan,

The truth is that I didn't think that my painting skill was up to painting wooden decks ... and then I discovered that many warships built during the war had their wooden decks painted. That's my excuse, anyway!

    All the best,

    Bob

  4. Pete,

Thanks for your very kind comment.

I hope to build some more model warships over the next few months, and when I do, they will be featured on my blog.

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. Hi Bob,

A belated comment I know but I am wondering where this building program may be headed....

    Any clandestine naval operations planned?

    (Pauses to stroke chin thoughtfully)

    All theb est,

  6. David Crook,

There is no building project as such ... but I do plan to add some more ships to my 'fleet' in due course.

    All the best,

    Bob
