The International News Agency has published two photographs taken from a commercial airliner on its way from Kronsgrad in SPUR to Edburg in Teutonia.
The photographs appear to show units of SPUR's Air Force flying northward towards the border with Opeland.
In response to the publication of these photographs, Mr Kollicoff – the Head of SPUR's Department of External Communications – has stated the aircraft had been taking part in planned annual manoeuvres, and were actually on their way back to their normal operational bases when the photographs had been taken.

Story checks out to me...
ReplyDeleteConrad Kinch,
ReplyDeleteA totally plausible explanation.
All the best,
Bob
These misunderstandings happen, I'm reminded of an unfortunate incident
ReplyDeletewhere our antiaircraft gunners shot down a hospital plane from across
the boarder that wandered over the line. As it was explained in the official release the aircraft in question was painted very much like our target drones.
Add to that the crews were very new and just out of training, most regrettable..
Don M,
ReplyDeleteSuch unfortunate incidents do occur from time to time.
As you write, it is always most regrettable.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteI always felt that the Polikarpov I-16 had a certain style. The historical Finns at the time were using MS 406s and Buffaloes as I recall against the Russians and these forces make for some excellent Angels 20 games.
the tension level must be getting cranked up a notch....
All the best
DC
David Crook,
ReplyDeleteThe I-16 has always been a favourite of mine since I bought a Revell 1:72nd-scale model of one back in the 1960s.
I do have a 1:100th-scale MS 406, but it is currently painted in French colours ... so the Opelanders are going to have to rely on a second-hand Bf109 to counter the threat from SPUR's Air Force.
The tension is rising ... as future blog entries will indicate!
All the best,
Bob
Stu Rat,
ReplyDeleteYou may well be right. The photographs do look as if they might have been manipulated in some way.
The world is watching? I do hope so!
All the best,
Bob
"planned annual man oeuvres"???
ReplyDeleteSounds like an excuse made up on the spur of the moment. (Zeesh, another memorable witticism right off the top of my head! How DO I do it? Or as my wife would say, why DO you do it?)
Best regards,
Chris
Chris,
ReplyDeleteYou doubt the veracity of Mr Kollicoff's statement? Of course the SPUR Air Force units were returning from annual manoeuvres, even if the airfields they were flying to have only just been completed ... and the airfields weren't there a month ago.
All the best,
Bob
I love it, much more interesting than the usual battle reports seen elsewhere. Keep your notebook handy and your pencil sharp.
ReplyDeleteMr. Pavone,
ReplyDeleteI am very pleased that you enjoy my battle reports.
I always get a lot of enjoyment from putting my battles in context, and even my one-off battles usually have some sort of back-story.
All the best,
Bob
